I have a nearby station that charges only 10 cent difference. Not going to happen.

I hadn't noticed. Is gas going up in price again?

If it does, I'm going into the telcoverter valve business.

telcoman, you might do the EX forum a favor and drop in here...zerothread/345926and share your 87 experiences. The EX has a 298 HP like your G, but I don't know if the compression is the same or not. They are a good, although less active group and would appreciate hearing from you.

I added $40 to the tank tonight, a grand total of 23 litres of 98.

Yippy, not even half a tank. Bring on the hydrogen G.

I will never use regular.

My sedan PINGS on regular, so not an option.Manual says Coupe must run on Prem....Reg. not an option.Wife says we get a 4% rebate on Prem., so only 2 cents more than middle grade. Telcoman, you don't have any pinging going on?? If not, that's great for you!

No, he doesn't have pinging, his knock sensor is permanently on, and the timing is retarded so that it won't ping. (That is what the knock sensor does) The car is saving itself (by retarding the timing), and lacking mileage, and performance. The difference in mileage that I get between regular and premium, makes it only pennies more to buy premium.

I won't ever make the switch. I'll ride the bus and garage the car. Plus, it'll be a sadass day if I can't afford the few bucks difference between reg and prem.

I predict that it is all going to work itswelf out when gas hits 5 bucks a gallon (and we're real close here in SoCal - I paid $4.709 for premium at Costco a couple of days ago) When it costs $80 to $100 to fill a tank 5 or 6 times a month, the demand is going to go way down, way down.

Buy stock in a scooter company right now.

The argument has been made that the cost difference is a dinner out a month ($30-50 depending on how much you drive). For me, it's not worth using regular when the manual explicitly states that premium should be used.

Funny you should bring this up...I actually filled my G for the first (probably the last) time yesterday with 87. What a frick'n difference in the way she drives!!

Gas here is

Regular (87) - $5.07 gallonSupreme (91) - $5.45 gallon

And no Bob, I respectfully disagree. It's only going to go up! Just wait until China starts bidding on barrels... we'll ALL be up shizz creek without a paddle!

just watch...

Isn't it amazing that the G-35 can save itself? Many of us will get tired of driving the car as it will hold up for many years to come. I am impressed with the G-35 coupe eventhough it rattles a lot.

Dear Infiniti.

We of Nico's G forums would really like to see a new G25. Something that had the class and refinement of the G35, with the economy of a Sentra.

Thank You

What's amazing about a microphone and a simple change in timing?

Cars have had knock sensors for decades, nothing impressive there.

Now, what IS impressive is that someone would buy a $40K car and put crap fuel in it, reducing HP and mileage, in order to save $4.80 a fill-up.

False economies FTL.

I have a few issues with that thread and I didn't even make it half way down the first page. Do Maximas really use premium? I find that hard to believe. If not, why are these people using premium in the first place? And someone mentioned that premium burns faster than regular? Umm, I don't think so. That's the whole point of the higher octane rating. I won't be switching, I'll just drive less, especially now since I currently don't have a license (wallet was stolen).

And that article you posted in there telcoman, it says its all your fault .

I think most auto manufacturers should be considering smaller engine options. Infiniti can probably do well to have a 2.5 or 3.0 V6 option in a G. It offers a lower entry price, for those who don't want to pay for the additional power, while bringing to the table a more economical option. I wouldn't consider the QR as an option in the G. V6 motors are generally smoother and would be more competetive with the offerings from the competition.

LOL

"The savings have helped, but not enough, Mr. Pushkin said. In recent weeks, he and his wife have begun relying more on the family’s second car, a Lexus hybrid S.U.V. that averages 25 miles a gallon, roughly seven miles more than the Infiniti, he said.

“I still use the Infiniti, but we are not going back to premium,” he said."

Me neither, I never used it in the first place!

How does $4/tank make a difference?

That costs you $20/mo.

Oh I forgot, that $20 could be going into my 401k.

Again, false economies FTL.

Just because a major newspaper interviewed someone who acts on misinformation, doesn't lend it additional credibility.

On a side note, I was filling up yesterday and a guy in a newer 3-series was filling up next to me... with 87 octane.

He was, however, wearing $200 sunglasses and a nice watch - I LOL'ed, hoping for a reply... he turned away as if ashamed. What a 'tard.

Hey Joe

I beg to differ.

The manual also explicitly states that during the 30k mile service the radiator cap should be replaced along with the wiper blades. Not necessary!I replaced my wiper blades at 50k miles because they began to streak. I still have my OEM radiator cap even though the manual states to replace it again at 60k miles along with belts and hoses.

My point is that we as Infiniti owners have to be informed but make intelligent decisions separate from marketing hype. Very few vehicles IMHO require the use of premium for day to day driving. Consumer Reports, Car Talk, and many others agree with me. Many other owners on this site and others don't and that is ok. I just inform the new twenty something owners that their G is not going to self destruct if they use regular gasoline and there is no need to feel guilty because the owners manual recommends premium.

Many here are strickly performance owners that are not happy unless they have the most HP and fastest zero to sixty time. The average hottie just doesn't care. Others like me don't give a rats #ss. I wanted a 6 speed, manual, comfortable, peppy, Bluetooth, RWD, Sirius radio equiped vehicle to replace my 14 year old Lexus ES300. I love my G and it has run flawlessly since day one with the exception of some oil consumption (now just under a qt per 3k miles) two TPMS sensors and an air bag module. Well with the $$$ saved this week on using regular, we're going out for chinese food saturday night

Cheers

If you want to know what is in store for the American auto market, look no further than a country that has had traditional high fuel prices. You'll find smaller cars, with 1000 to 1300 cc engines. 50 to 80 HP and considerably higher mileage. Gas is closing in on 5 bucks a gallon, and headed to 6 a gallon (or so they say). When the average family has to spend more on fuel each month than on food, possibly even more than housing, you'll start seeing Smart Fortwo cars on every street.

Many of the guys here are single, or DINKS. (dual income, no kids) IE, married without house payments, orthodontic bills, etc. When you've got to make a choice between $600 to $800 a month for gas, or Jimmies braces, they will change their mind, and the G will go the way of the buffalo.

So, you're saying we're all going to be driving cars like Jacko's little Nissan? The B13 with 92 HP?

You've got that right!

Too many Americans have never traveled to see for themselves how the rest of the civilized world lives with high gasoline prices. They need to visit cities like Amsterdam, Berlin, Vienna, Bejing, Moscow to see first hand. Many don't realize that GM almost single handly destroyed almost all of the public street car transportation companies and drove them out of business during the 1920's, 30's and 40's because they sold busses.

We need a serious and profound change in this country. Bush cannot get us out of this problem because he and the oil lobby are part of the problem. We need to sharply reduce our consumption and raising prices is already having the needed result. Drilling off shore is a bunch of and even if we did there would be no results for 10 years or so. Why should gas prices be lowered anyway. So we can just return to our wasteful ways? Goodby Hummer, Explorer, Yukon and the rest of the oversize poor mileage SUV's. I won't miss you. On did I forget to mention Fords also?

A savings of $5, $10, $15, or even $20 a month isn't a big deal to me when it comes to my G...

I just spent $80 on ICE cleaning supplies
