I removed a quarter from my 94 vert parts car. Worst thing to do. Hundreds of spot welds, and hammering with the chisel . Its not worth it. Then putting it back on and getting it to line up and seal right.

I don't know who here has or has not done body work, but a quarter panel replacement is not for beginners. Its something a body shop charges big money for because its tons of labor. You also have to worry about seal leaks now too. For little to nothing you can seal that one up and just go the ghetto overfender route to make it look good for now.

Why are you people like this? Thats why they call it a PROJECT car!!! Why do you think we put mods in our car? to make it better... why do you think we do body work? to make it better... why do you think we do all this ourselves? to save money...

So if hes doing this himself to save money why would he go out and buy a new car? id say keep going... cars are all about experiences and this project is a great experience!

word. but you really arent helping the situation. or making ANYthing relevant to the thread. he NEVER said he didnt want to do the work. hes asking HOW to do the work. why dont you actually take the time to read the thread instead of shoving your head up everyones *** that sais "buy a shell!" "his car is a piece of ****!" "scrap it!" ...

at least hes trying to figure out how to do things. if we all took the easy way out like you so happily suggested, there would be no point to owning and enjoying a car. sometimes you have to get dirty and actually DO some work instead of buying someone else's labor and sweat.

Bro, in this kids threads hes saying that he doesnt even want to bondo (besides this one because of the flame in the previous thread) but expects an easier route? We gave him all of the possible routes to fixing his problem but doesnt exactly KNOW how to do any of these or can even AFFORD any. From what i have gathered in his threads he sounds like a stupid little kid that bought this car being like "yeah this is gonna be the sickest import yo!!11, im gonna do all this work and its gonna be so cool" when in reality he has no idea wtf hes doing and then comes here out of the f**king blue, we pitch ideas and get stupidity in return. Thats my reason to flame on this ridiculous thread, and not helping the cause? he didnt like any of the ideas/sarcasm so he threw a childish online hissy-fit.

Oh and bondo wouldnt hold for more than 6 months on this catastrophe.

i would have to agree with this one. unless you have some experience, it will become overwhelming fast and you may need to take it to a body specialist in the end anyways.

BTW some parts you may hve to get a welder to put some strips in!
i've done this to some drift damage on my cousin's s13. i tried the studs, but because the sheetmetal is kind of thin to begin with, the studs pull out after some hammering. going from the backside with a spoon and lightly prying with a small crowbar got most of it out. the damage you will need to be shrunk back down. you can probably get it close with a hammer and some dollies, but hit softly. don't wack the crap out of it. the blows will move the metal slowly. if you hit too hard, you might stretch it too far. and either way you will need to get the panel to hold either the glue or bondo. DA sander down with 36 grit. Also i recently was looking for a way to use a shrinking hammer( looks like a waffle head on the hammer) and came across a way to shrink metal using an old Flap wheel that has most of the grit taken off. might be worth checking out the metal shapers forum. they might have some helphttp://metalshapers.org

good luck.

oh is that so? if you want me to be honest, when it comes to people saying HELP and things like this i dont JUMP right the f**k on it because there is a possibility that i could be wrong and f**k up someone else car, I'll say something when im positive though. Sorry for my lack of contribution. But im sure with a post count like yours, you've contributed more than anyone.

P.S.This is a forum, I'm sure some people will not like everyone else post but that may be a risk you might have to take.

A lot of charged opinions flying about here. OP, if myself and some of the other posters have come off sounding like d!ck, well, I'm sorry. Bstrd240sx makes some good points, but, I can tell you as someone not employed in the automotive field, there is no good solution for your damage. Or at least not from a cost/benefit point of view. (Were I employed then I would certainly know someone I could con into helping me for a good price.)

I guess a lot of people are used to seeing people with a "How do I fix this?" post where the poster doesn't realize the amount of effort it takes to "fix this". Is your quarter panel fixable. In short, yes. But, what are your expectations? Do you want it to look like factory virgin sheet metal? Big Bucks and Big skills required. Period. If, on the otherhand, you are ok with mediocre results and interested in learning a few things along the way, then grab a few buddies and explore one of the aforementioned solutions. I wish you the best of luck. Cheers

the easiest way to make that thing decent looking is t get overfenders, say 30mm (i think the smallest)and for new wheels, you could just go the cheapest way and get some xxr 002 and maybe 20mm spacers for the rear.

that's like $800, but your car would actually look good in the end.

im wondering how much work it would be to get a skin from a donor car and glue it on with that epoxy? probably use some sheetmetal screws to keep it in place. then you could probably just use a little bondo and feather out the edge. it wouldn't widen the car much, more like a skin fitting over another. but either way you look at it, there is alot of work that needs to be done.

here are some responses to all of you

at the time of my previous posts i did not want to attempt to bondo because ive never did it and i didnt want to ruin stuff more. as ive heard more about it, it seems like something i am going to need to know and i might as well learn sometime

and yes, i know of about 3 different routes i could take to fix this car, but each has its pros and cons, and me being on a very limited budget, i am trying to reason out which ones will really work for me. i can bondo it, replace the qp, or do a swap into a shell.

i am willing to try to tackle the replacing the quarter idea, i just ask alot of questions so i really know what to do. i pretty much have it down now.

this was my first car and i dont regret buying it. it is going to be fun fixing up even thought i am gonna need lots of patience to do so. but its a learning experience for me.

i have also considered buying a good shell and transfering my engine over to it, but again, it'll take time to save for that. although it'd be about the same price overall as fixing mine.. my dad is good with cars and said he'd do the swap with me, he's done them before.

lay another 1/4 panel over the damaged one w/o removing it ?

the new panel would never fit on, and even if it did your door gap, window opening and trunk gap would all shink

bstrd, would you recommend fixing it up, or just getting a shell and putting my engine in that?

I would say go overfenders with epoxy and wheel spacers, No matter what your going to have to cut out that damaged area and replace it with an oem fender from a j-yard which may not be as cost effective in the end as going overfenders and some lordfusor.

im not sure i understand how overfenders work..

wouldnt oem fenders be less than overfenders and spacers.. i mean.. if i have to cut out the fender on there now, why not just put an oem one on and not have to buy spacers..

whats so good about overfenders? not dissing them, actually wondering what is so good.. you all say they'll cover it right up.. but if i have to cut off all the damage whats the point of covering up damage that isnt there.. do they attach easy or something?

Yeah they would attach easy, you could leave that junked up fender underneath them and not even worry about it, I believe. People run overfenders so they can run a lower offset wider wheel and not have it petruding out from the quater, It would be easy to just slap an overfender right overtop of that damage and call it a day, ya dig?

overfenders slap right over the steel quarter panel, and since most cover right up to the outside edge of the panel you wont see any of the damage

if youve ever seen pictures of widebody cars what have a line of bolts, / rivits all the way around the edge of the 1/4 panel, those are over fenders, they can also be epoxied in place if you wish

weather you 1/4 swap or just buy a new chassis is up to you, only you know what your more comfortable with.

hell, i can hardly make up my mind about my own car, lol

honestly your cheapest route to go would be with a new shell. they can be had for 500 or less, since both your quarters are messed up your looking at

option 1. replace quarters with ones from junkyard which run about 200 each side, plus you have to get paint after you mount them. paint isnt cheap either

option 2. overfenders cost 400ish plus paint and new wheels

option 3. new shell will cost 500 and you get to learn how to swap an engine and trans, plus you can swap interiors and what not if you want as well. you would learn more swapping to a new shell than you would simply swapping panels or attaching new qp's.

hmm... i really like the engine swap idea, and ill have my dad helping me so ill actually know what im doing, unlike repairing the body, which only i could attempt..

if i buy a shell.. well first of all.. does a shell have everything i need? (wiring, etc.), or is it literally just a frame with a body..?

i'd want to buy a 240 that pretty much just needs an engine, is there a proper term for that? i wouldnt mind not having seats or anything because i have some $1000 racing seats i can put in, corbeau..

you can normally pick up a whole s13 with a blown motor for 500. a "shell" normally means that just the engine/trans is missing or blown up.

which would you recommend i try to buy, a shell, or a whole s13 with a blown motor, or does it even matter?

I want to swap my whole engine and trans when I do the swap if I do. I have a stage-5 clutch and I don't have the guidepin so I just want to swap it all together so I'm not taking that stuff apart.

a "shell" and a whole s13 w/ blown motor are pretty much the same thing. just look around and see what you can find?

would it be significantly more expensive to get a shell that is already lowered?

Most people take off the aftermarket parts before they sell a shell, but you may find one already lowered, or you could save for coilovers later down the road and install them yourself, its super easy anyone could do it.

get off this lowering craze. if you want it lower, buy some f*** springs, if you want it slammed to the ground, get coilovers. lowering springs are like 200 bucks.

its not an issue installing them, just having the money.. which is why it'd be better to buy one with it done.. just a thought.

previous owner did all the mods to the car. I, however, am not car-knowledged. I ask questions to learn, if I could do the mods then I wouldn't be asking noob questions.

I smell a FAIL dude
