i was talking about caps in general. most of them (small ones like the ones on your car, not for your speaker system) lose their charge as soon as the electricity is turned off.the cap for your system has electricity in the form of chemical energy then, not "stored" electricity. if you want to bet me that there is a way to store electricity other than in the form of chemical energy then i'm more than willing to bet on that. i have never taken a cap apart, but it would make sense that it has a battery within it. that battery is the charge you get... the cap controls voltage spikes. see your main battery does the same thing, but it can't hanle major drawns. the alternator is not stable enough and spikes a lot, so that why the battery feeds power to everything because if it was the alternator, then your computer would short out, and so would a lot of other things cause the alternator is too erratic. anyway so yes, it could maybe hold a chrage, but only with a battery. that's what i was arguing. that there is no way to store electricity other than in the form of chemical energy such as a battery.

it may be cheaper to just buy a new alternator. most shops now a days dont even service alternators anymore, because it is cheaper to just get a new one. like ayjay said there are people that do it still, but i mean price things first for sure.

oh and ajay i know exactly what you're talking about with spot welding a screwdriver. i was replacing my battery, and my wrench slipped and caught the + and - terminals... sparks went everywhere and shot really damn high, and the damn thing got sooooo hot. it scared the crap out of me, but luckily i knocked it off quickly. it was hot, but not red hot, so i got lucky. almost ruined my new battery. i'm lucky the thing didn't ignite Hydrogen gas and blow up and hose me down with battery acid.

kinda off topic but i was siphoning some coolant out of my radiator through were the rad cap is long story short got amouth full of coolant....yummy it has a kind of a sweet taste if by sweet you mean fecal sweet:) ayjay you could have fried the cap doing that lol. next time find a 12 volt 2ohm resistor and hold it to the positive and negative it'll heat up alil but doesn't cause any bodily harm. I'll find my 14mm wrench and take a pic of it. has a nice little divet melted into it from looking over and talking to someone while tightening the positive terminal on a jeep whoops lol.

this thread is really gettin off topic, eh?

wow, turns out the 2003 model US Amps DE-1000 is stable down to one ohm and puts out 1800W RMS... if the older model is still only 12" long, i'm gonna go for it!

are the ones on the website different than the 2003 model? i looked at usamps site and it says 1000 rms, but i mean of course it is 2004 now... where will you get a 2003 model? that's a lot of power... the amps look nice too. and only like $699... not bad at all if they really do put out that kind of power.

like i was saying before though, under this explanation i don't understand what is holding people back from using the energy from lightning bolts... i mean it's just confusing and doesn't make much sense if the damn things can store electrons quickly and all... that's why i had gone with other explanations.
