I think you should check that. My car is a 96 and my cable had a good bit of slack, I'm sure yours has the same if not more. I'm assuming you don't have a header, so, maybe you should get one unless you plan on going turbo sometime soon. That would rule out the Cat altogether. I picked one up for $150 used. Probably the best mod I've done so far. Have you removed the butterflies in your intake manifold?? That is supposed to be a good mod for the S13. You may want to check if those are working properly as well if you do not plan to remove them. Ummmm, any evidence of plug wire arc??? That can definitly kill a cars performance. I'm just trying to think of things for you to check out man, you shouldnt be getting beat like this.

The distributor is very advanced, but not quite ALL the way. I tried it at different positions and my butt-ometer says this is the best. I'll try checking it with a light but it's so damn hard to tell with the fan shroud in there.

What'd you do to tighten the slack?

I've got a turbo manifold in shipping and a T3 going on very soon.

I will remove scv's soon.

I haven't noticed any evidence of arcing, I'll look more carefully but I don't think there is any.

I think I'm losing power in the transmission or diff. Hopefully its the transmission because I'm getting a different one due to bad synchros.

Yeah, the reason the stock one doesn't fit is that it's too long and runs into the boot. The threads are the same. I haven't seen the Nismo one, but if it's shorter in length then the stocker, it will work.

to tighten the slack, you just loosen the adjusting nuts on the cable at the throttle body. The one on the bottom is the locking nut and the one at the top does the adjusting. Very easy to do.
