The runner length is actually different, I dont know why its like that, but they're different... Its definitely weird, and the plenum is a PITA to get off...

Ill bet stock for stock, a RB26DETT powered skyline would go faster than a VH45DE powered skyline.

the looks of the plenum fool PPL all the time.

Its lateral.

First of all, thats just a GTS skyline so it only had a Rb25DET at best. Second of all, the RB26DETT is the almighty ruler of engines and even stock it scares the crap out of me. Just happens to be a really nice guy who has a GTR around here, the thing is crazy fast, even with his AWD broken.

stock for stock, yes the RB26DETT GTR is quicker than my car, not much but i dont care, in roll on races all i have is torque while the GTR is still coming on boost giving me an instant advantage, though power wasnt the main incentive for the conversion, i personally think its just cool and power is a bonus.

Theres not a lot of low end on the GTR, but once you hear the turbo's spinning you want to get a new pair of pants asap.

The VH45DE would give you a much more torquey and responsive ride, if thats your goal more power to you!

Oh and i would love to have a VH45DE in my 240sx, it would be way fun and low maintenance. But the swap is still obscure and not 'easy' to do yet so i'm going for an RB.

I think you could maybe do some custom work onthe VH41 to make it a VH45, err a stroker kit

Thats about the only difference, is the stroke.....

the block and heads are aluminum, so the weight isnt much more than the RB.

dont forget the RB's iron block is considerably longer and the turbocharger two if its twin, the intercooler all add a lot of weight. Just counting cylinders is a bad way to estimate weight. All alumanum V8 compared to an iron turbo 6 isnt going to be that far off.

yeah, I didn't know the 4.5 was all aluminum...mah bad. (slinking away in shame) all the more reason I like the RB series better... more resistance to heat.. from turbos :-)

actually.....the VH motors are used in the indy racing cars or F1 or something like that. they have a VRH35 that was a destroked 45 with a set of turbos on it. its a hell of an engine that many people underestimate.

If you're going turbo go iron, if your going N/A go alumanum. Thats my opinion anyway.

Go aluminum either way... remember your pistons are an aluminum alloy. There is no reason not to go aluminum for a block, simple pressure casting of aluminum can yield a material that is ever bit as strong as normal cast iron. That VH block would hold more power than an RB26 stock block any day.

And for anyone thinking the RB series engines are heavy because of their block, you need to take a good look at one. The block itself is about .5 - 1" thinner in width and about 1-1.5" shorter than a KA24 block. Keep in mind it's only displacing 200cc more than a KA. The weight comes from the extra head materials, reciprocating mass, manifolds, turbo(s), etc.
