but an evo 9 upgraded w/ deff pull alot more than the r32.... plus i think the evo is a nicer looking car than the r32. I have the the r34 vspec III and i paid almost double the price of the evo 9 to get it and its alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll worth it.

I'd take a straight 6 over a 4 banger any day.

Does it really matter if its a Nissan forum let alone a "Skyline Section"??? 90% of the people that chat on Nico don't even own a Skyline. I started a poll and thread to hear peoples opinions.

I would hope that brand affilation would not affect responses but I expect they would. The EVO gets my vote simply because it is new and available stateside. The old R at this point in day would need a complete ground-up rebuild and parts are scarce there. R34 -vs- Evo goes the other way.

evo for all the reasons posted above...and to the guy who said that he would chose an R32 over an R33, R34, and 96 Supra TT is an idiot....i would think that reasons why dont need to be stated. I love the skylines, but the evo would just be a better all around buy. Yea, its a four banger and that sucks, but its a four banger that, with the right amount of easy bolt ons and minor mods can reach in excess of 750awhp.

Plus i just like shifting with my right hand. I grew up in south africa so ive done both, but im right handed so i like it better in the States.

To each their own tho, this is a nissan forum, and i FRIEKEN LOVE nissans...best overall car make ever.

well the thing is that you can get later a evo since they are sold in any dealer but how often you can get a R32 GTR in good condition? so if you can get the gtr get it and later when you save the money get a evo.. and the gtr will draw more attention than a evo. since its more rare in the US.

Drawing more attention is not necessarily a good thing though.

The Skyline still has some advantages over the Evo.

For one, the Skyline isn't derived from Nissan's bottom-of-the-economy-bin platform.

2nd, the Skyline has it's motor pointing the right way.

3rd because the Skyline has it's motor pointing the right way, it has a LOT more options for improvement later on...say, by various motor swaps.

4th again, because the Skyline has it's motor pointing the right way, it has a superior drivetrain and AWD system.

That's not to mention the fact that the Evo is so spectacularly ugly you risk permanent retinal damage from just glancing at it.

Sorry, I don't care WHAT track times the Evo puts down. It's too boy-racer and when you come down to it's still a bottom-tier Mitsu at it's heart which is a scary prospect indeed.

If Mitsu was REALLY serious about making the Evo insane, they'd quit screwing around with Lancers and build a real car.

Well it seems that I was not very clear in my original post.

Evo IX vs. R32 GT-R.
Aaaah, that changes things. I would choose GT-R, simply for the collectability, although performance wise the old Nissan would shake the **** outa the EVO. Hell, they banned the GT-R from the Aussie touring car races because the 6.0V8s were being made to look silly. Thanks for the clarification.

And yep, when did the RB26 ever appear in V6 form? Answer - never! Perhaps a return beating is due, lol. Inline ain't V. The only Nissan to come with a V6 is the VG30D & DE-DETT motors of the Z31/ Z32.

Don't get me wrong, you won't find me bagging on Nissan. I've owned dozens. I do however like the EVO (the only Mitsi I do like) & would have one as a DD in a heartbeat if I could justify my DD costing more than my Z. I have given thought to the Mitsi Lancer GSR wagon as a DD tho, very similar to EVO2-3, wagon practicality, sleeper looks, AWD wet traction, cheap as chips.

You have never heard of the v6 in any of nissans trucks, SUVs, 350z, g35, 2008 GTR, g37, m series, or maxima?

the vg30 wasn't the only V6.

Skylines have 6 cylinders, but they aren't V6's they are Inline 6's. Please have some knowledge about cars before you speak of them?

My bad, you are right. to myself. I've owned 2 Maximas and a Pathfinder (and plenty of other Nissans from Sunny to Patrol) & of course both those cars had a VG30E V6, different heads but same block. The G35 & 350Z I excluded based on age when discussing 10-20yo Skylines.

My point was merely that the Skyline R30-R34 was always an inline 6. A lot of people believe V is a precurser to any cylinder number, and don't realize it's a block format. And lets not even go the horizontally opposed boxer route, lol!

No way. Evo IX has the same amount of horsepower and far better suspension and suspension control. If you've never driven/ridden in an Evo you definitely must. That car is capable of handling anything you throw at it and more without a wimper. The myth of "zero countersteer" on an Evo is no myth. The car is amazing. Not to mention the MIVEC variable intake cam timing on the IX's makes the Evo far more responsive than the GTR. The GTR is a good car and was amazing for the time, but few nearly 20 year old cars can keep up with modern cars, the advances are too big.

oooh Mr. smart A-- is fronting me....blah, inline 6, i know, my car is powered by the rb. read my statement again, which stands true, all skyline have 6 cylinders (i didn't said inline or v).

welll, i take it back; the evo 10 looks hot. the front end grill area look too much like they copy it from the Nissan new GTR

The EVO IX or the R32 Skyline GT-R, that's a tough question! 20 year time difference tips the scale in the EVO's favor, but stuff that, the GT-R is legendary!

SKYLINE GT-R R32...it's just the better choice.Even a base skyline vs. a base lancer is better.I wouldn't put both in the same class.I think that's pretty sad,16 year difference and still no competition... NISSAN

Looking at the average age of the people who voted R32 I'd say that people who know what they are talking about and don't just worship at the altar of Nissan voted EVO.

nice vid to watch. Evo whups 2 generations of the GT-R and its only a Evo 8 GSR. A Evo 9 MR would have won it easily...

Evo 9 mr is the better performance car, no question, but if youre going for nostalgia then the R32 is a better choice. Like buying a classic muscle car...

You may be right, but I just want to defend my non-fanboyness.I just hate Evos with a passion. I'd rather drive a pink new beetle with those teddy bear wheels. And since I'd take an R32 over a new beetle...well if A > B and B > C then A > C.

Definitely, that was more directed at the people who didn't provide any justification beyond "OMG SKYLINE!!!!!1!!!111" for choosing the GTR over EVO. You take some interesting stances on things. I never thought about choosing the EVO over the R32 being fanboy but I guess it can be considered that both ways.
