So the problem with a lowered car is the chance of something hitting the oil pan. The stock cover doesnt really do anything so I started searching for a skid plate, found one, but was pretty expensive, soo I figured I'd make my own.

To start off, I took one of the many signs I have around my house,

Next I just mounted it up

and then found out where I needed to bend it

took it off then measured it, drew a line and took it to the nearest flat edge (which happend to be the pillar between garage doors

and got this

After that I had to make on more bend for the holes on the bottom bumper (wohoo, bends are fun )

Now, all I did was mark up some mounts, punch them, then drill them and mounted it all back up (have pictures of dimensions if needed)

I have alot more pictures of anything needed to see and if you have any questions, ask

I was also thining about making a skid plate out of a road sign for my S13. Looks like somebody beat me to it! But seriously thanks for the pictures and if you could show a better pic of the dimensions, that would be great. I already went through one KA due to a dented oil pan!

I dunno, if you hit something big enough and hard enough, that flimsy peice of aluminum wont do much. thumbs up for being creative though!! i would never of thought of that.

you shoulda done it so the sign faced down so you could see it when under the car. and you should cut a hole by your drain plug so u dont have to take it off every time u want to change your oil

This is funny until you cause an accident by removing a traffic sign.....go to Lowe's and buy some sheet metal. This is only directed to the original poster IF it applies to him....

It would be so much more gansterer if people knew it was a road sign. Flip that **** upside down.

A few years back I saw a special on Dateline about some kids stealing stop signs. They stole one from a four way intersection, and a fatal crash happened two days later. Joking or not, the kid responsible ended up doing jail time for second degree murder. I dont give a **** what you do, just think about that the next time you go out and grab some signs.

Only street signs I've ever stolen were the green ones that had the names of streets on them.

I pulled one that was "Chris Avenue" and another that was "Davis Mill Road", plus the little crossbar so I can mount them like it's an intersection.

Still dunno where the hell I'd put 'em though.

Stealing stop signs, yield, etc.. is t3h badsauce.

Yeah, theres a Skyline Drive right by my house. Maybe I should get on the Skyline forums and get my street sign hustle on.

In Florida you just wait for a hurricane and street signs can be found all over the place... it's ok to take them because they put up new ones anyway (if its dinged, bent, scratched etc..)

Still... how do you change the oil now?

1. Take off oil filler cap.

2. Turn car upside down.

3. Refill oil to specified amount.

4. Reinstall oil filler cap.

Am I the only one with any interest in a functional thick (like 3/16") aluminum skid plate? There is a place that makes skid plates for Subarus that can do custom orders...I'd love to have a sturdy, well made skid plate for my S13.

Thinking of trying some Rally-X at some point... :D

Think it would of been better upside down. I means it says Do Not Enter. So therefore the debris would see that and not hit it right????

The aluminum is thick, it isn't flimsy at all. Tomorrow i'll cut out a section with the Sawzall for the drain plug, this was done in short amount of time before work..
