Why is that when one put Japanese market Silvia badging on a US market 240SX people think you have to "earn" your badge by having a SR20DET or KAT or something to "back it up."

Sure some people think it's nice to have the badge some people think it's retarded but that'all up to you. Some say you bought a 240SX and no matter what you do to it it will always be a 240SX. But that is not the point.

The Silvia Badge is just a car name. Having your car badged as one doesn't mean anything. It is not a Trim model like "Type R" that claims to have high performance behind it. The Silvia being offered in 3 trims J's, Q's and K's. The first two being NA SR20DE. 140HP around I believe. Simular number like the KA but of course it' doesn't act the same. The NA motor wasn't exactly a speed demon either. But what do you know...*GASP it was a Silvia too.

Silvia is just a name...not a over hyped trim model of "Super Turbo Hi-Power Type R edition"

yeah, people like that are stupid. I think its kind of weird how some people are so obsessed with the whole jdm thing and will spend a ton of money for stupid stuff that doesnt really make their car any faster just because thats what they have in japan. I swear some people would buy dirty underwear if it was IMPORTED FROM JAPAN!

dirty japanese underwear?! WHERE!?!

I think whatever you do to your car is up to you. As long as you are satisfied there is no reason to worry about what other idiots think about it.

i say do whatever you want with your car. if people dont like it, f them. if it looks stupid, then why should other people care? their not the jackasses driving around in it, you are. Not that silvia badges are stupid, just generalizing for all car modifications. If I want to drive a nissan 240sx GTR Si Type R STi, then thats my business :D

you guys are kinda not making sense... right now you are all saying if the owner likes the car then thats all that matters but then whenever you guys sees or even smells a ricer you guys freak out. Just seems funny.. not to start fight or anything but....

personally I don't freak out at the sign of rice, I just hate it. Silvia badging isnt that bad. GTR badging is, in my opinion, unless its on a Skyline with an RB26 :)It isn't even noticeable on 240s most of the time...

I do think that anyone can do whatever they want to their car though, I just hope they have better judgment than to rice it out. Personally, my upgrades will be for comfort and performance more than looks, though I have to make my car look somewhat slick, which is why I am getting an SE. They looks slick stock :D

I wouldn't really consider it rice to put a silvia badge on a 240. I dont think i would, because to me its not actually a silvia even if i have an sr20det. Rice would be putting a powered by vtech sticker on the back of a 240, or a gtr badge on a civic. To each his own, but if it looks stupid and the person starts to brag about it, then they need to be put in there place.

I dont mean that sylvia badge is rice

Its just that alot of people here just HATES ricers, Im also against it too but for me its really whatever the owner likes thats why I never complain about ricers or participate on ricer posts. But now the people who DOES hate ricers and makes fun of them are saying that whatever you do to your car is OK as long as the owner likes.... its making no sense

A silvia is right hand drive, so even if a 240 has an sr its still a 240. If someone in japan were to put a ka in there silvia, it wouldnt become a 240. I dont consider my car a 180sx. My brother owns a subaru 2.5 rs, the gc8 body style. If he were to put the 2.0 liter turbo engine that came in the gc8 in japan, it wouldnt suddenly become a wrx like its japanese conterpart. My friend has a silvia badge on his s14, but he still calls it a 240.

I dont think people in US ACTUALLY calls their sylvia because deep inside passed the sr20 and all the jdm goodies, they all know that it will still be a 240sx and not a sylvia

Why do you feel the need to spell Silvia with a y? I don't intend that to be mean, just wondering.

Its true that you can do what you want with your car, however . . . .

Putting a Silvia badge a KA 240sx is like putting a SiR sticker on a Honda Civic CX, or putting a Turbo emblem on the non turbo counterpart of that same model, looks the same but its not. And 99.99% percent of you would flame those people in a minute. :nopity

Alright, here's one for ya to argue over...first off your opinions won't in anyway change my plans cause i like it and thats what counts....

But what do you all think of this...i'm planning a RB26 Swap and a R33 GTR front end(bolting up the body panels)...Now with that i'm gonna keep the GTR badge in the front grill of the R33 and replace the nissan symbol on the back lights with either a GTR Power or GTR badge. And they will be the only markings on my car. Does this make it rice? I don't think so, she'll have the balls to back up the badge, i'm not saying she's a skyline, not saying that shes a silvia, or ever a 240, but rather that shes a GTR, which means she has a RB26 under the hood.....so whatcha think?

I dont think left or right hand drive makes a diffrence, Ive seen pictures of Skyline GTRs somewhere out in the Middle East (maybe saudi) that are left hand drive, I dont think that makes them NOT a Skyline (It would still own you, right or left).

In the case of models that both markets have like a rx-7 turbo II they came in left hand and right so what would you say then other then diffrent color turn signals or something, still the same car. . . . . . . .

IMO if it has the same working mechanicals, bodywork, suspension, brakes then you can qualify it as the same model and badge it the same otherwise, you have to fall on that "is my car and I can do what I want to it" defense

Redline, I would be alright with the GTR badge BECAUSE you can back it up....that is the point. If you haven't done the work to back it up it is rice. Also, I have a strawberry face s14 and it is still a 240. I refer to it as an s14.5 because the body is half and half but it is STILL a 95 240 s14 when officially asked.

nightshift, I assume that the GTR in the middle east that your talkin about is from the factory that way so therefore it Is just that....a GTRIf you would get pissed or consider it rice if a Mustang put a GTR badge on then it is rice for one to put a silvia badge on anything other than a silvia or at least a car with all the appropriate conversion. ALso for those out there when all the conversions have been made it is called a CLONE. Just like when the muscle car guys upgraded their cars to the next trim level etc.....;)

there are left hand drive 180sx and im assuming there are left hand drive silvia's, my FSM has both lhd and rhd provisions. so therefore you can have a USDM turn into silvia and have it official

Let me get this straight Burgy. . . . .so If I spend the ridiculously large amt of money that Moterex charges for a stock Skyline GTR and somehow manage pull out of my *** another ridculously large amt of money to change said SKYLINE GTR to a left handed version for my convinience. Since its now NOT left handed from the factory its something else but definitely NOT a SKYLINE GTR because it didnt come that way from the factory? Its got the same chassis an RB26DETT its got the same transmission and the ATESSA AWD system in it and all that other good ****.

I know . . I just paid for a Civic CX with a real good Skyline conversion . . . someone get me some SiR stickers quick:rolleyes
