they probably do that because sileighties were actually a production car at one point

someone correct me if im wrong but i read that nissan decided to put silvia fronts on a few 180sx's and distributed them to select dealerships but only in japan.

Sil80's were JDM 180sx's with Silvia fronts on them. So, yes... if someone in the U.S. said they have a Sil80, either they're a)retarded b) simplifying things c) imported some hot shyt.

To keep the confusion down, most ppl prefer to use the terms S13.5 or S13.4 (for an s14 front end conversion).

S13.5 and S13.4 has nothing to do with his question, totally different conversion.

yeah, i didn't quite understand that part either.

s13.4 = s14 front ends13.5 = s15 front end

and a 240 with a silvia front is still a 240...sil40 is retarded...as is sil80, but at least it was given its name by Nissan.

IMO

Well if you wanna get really techical it depends on what engine it has in it.

240sx = 2.4L200sx = 2.0L180sx = 1.8L

I think your just overthinking this. Anytime you put the silvia front end on a 180, 200, 240sx its called a sil80. Like the guy said they are an actual car although i read it wasnt nissan it was a private company that bought up old ones and did the conversion and sold them as thier own cars.

This is wrong.

200SX and 180SX had both the 1.8 and 2.0 available in them.

yes but which one was the standard engine and which one was the optional? Im willing to bet its the engine that goes with the number. Anyway that was just to make the arguement even more pointless.

The point of the post was that a sil80 is a silvia front end on a hatchback.

the 180sx got the sr20 in 91 but still kept the name 180sx. a sil80 is simply an s13 coupe front on a 180sx/240sx HB body. engine really doesnt matter. its a trend.

ugh i knew i shouldnt have put that engine thing in there. It was more of a joke than anything. although to my original point the 180sx originated with the 1.8L engine so thats why it had that name.

Come on, newby newb. Trust an OG member.

The standard depends on what year. The standard in the 180SX and 200SX was the 1.8 until Nissan stopped production of the CA18DET, then they switched to the SR. There weren't any optional motors, just optional turbo or N/A.

I just told you. The engine in either the 180 or the 200 originally was the 1.8.Then after they stopped making the 1.8, they put the 2.0 in both.

SO YOU ARE WRONG. Now stop posting misinformation, newby newb.
Kidcid wrote:the engine is what gave the sil"80" its name, your right..
No.
J14cm7 wrote:silvia front end on ANY hatchback = sil80 becasue there was an actaul car called the sil80
No. Sure you can call it whatever you like, but if it's not a 180SX, it's not a 180SX. Surely you can understand that.

I sure wish you "RPS13" fools would get the same picture. It's not an RPS if it was sold in the states! If you're gonna be specific and use engine chassis codes, use them right!
J14cm7 wrote:350Z = 3.5L370Z= 3.7L
This is true, but it doesn't reflect on every car ever made. Take BMWs naming system for example. The number generally has nothing to do with the engine.

Also, the older 200SX's had mostly 1.8 motors in them, except for the S12 which had a 1.8 turbo, 2 kinds of 2.0s, a 2.4 race motor, and a 3 liter V6 option... The S110 also had a 1 liter rotary in it for some folks...

Ehh... no, it's not. The OP never signified in his first post which Silvia conversion he was talking about. Everyone just jumped in and assumed he was talking about an S13 Silvia.

One is entirely JDM (sil80), the other is one half JDM, one half US market(sil40).
