I just got my rotors/pads from heavy throttle (they're beautiful, ill post pics later). All ive ever done to a car is intake/exhaust install. Im wondering whether brakes is outta my league. I have no one that i know (other than you guys) that can help me with the install. So its either me (w/ the help of a friend who also knows nothing) or the mechanic. How hard would you say it is and what is the chance for error? Thanks

Oh, and these, as well as my Chilton's, are what I'd been using to help...

brakes are easy. IMO. The Chiltons will have it spelled out for you, so as long as you have a simple set of tools, you'll be able to do it.

Its not super hard. Its all pretty easy to figure out.If you have a brain it shouldn't be hard.

The worst case scenario is you send me a ticket to Florida and i will help you with it :)

are you gonna bleed em or just swap pads and rotors? if its the second option it should be pretty straight forward.

Breaking the bolts on the capilers brackets is always the hardest part for me. Just soak them for awhile before you try to break them and use a breaker bar. Also, your rotors likely wont just pull off. Just beatem off with a malet. Bleeding is the only part thats a real pain in the ***, just time consuming. Overall, brakes are a very simple job, I'd say it's the next step up for most DYS car people after changing their own oil, lol. Don't forget the brake cleaner if you want that ***** to stop when you're done!!!

you dont need to bleed if you dont open the hydraulic system. rotors do just pull off unless yours are rusted on. it is easy to do, i do it all the time in shop class. probobly done brakes like 20 times since december. read these:http://www.stoptech.com/whitep...a.htmh ... 7.htmlmake sure you break them in the right way.

I'll be doing my rear calipers this weekend. One of them has been sticking for a while now, but was still under warranty(previous owner replaced them last may with remanufactured) and i just got the replacements. The guy was cool and is replacing them both under warranty. How much jackstands usually cost? Know a good place to get em?

yes, twist the pistons in the rear into the casing. If you manage to press them in, you've got serious problems. The front ones press in, not the rears.

there should be 2 screw holes in the rotor. Screw in a screw in each hole and it should pop right off.

I just put on new rotors, rebuild my calipers, and new pads last night myself. All my rotors except one came off with just my hands, the last one i tapped with a rubber mallot a few times and it came off. The rear piston is a pita to compress, you have to twist and apply pressure inward to get it to compress and get the caliper around the new pads and rotor.

Hit it with a mallet between the lugs. Be carefull not to hit a stud. It's proberly rusted onto the spindle.
