I'm w/ Rex. I think the '03/4 M45 is one of the best new car values in the world right now. I was initially of the opinion that it just didn't look right until I saw a few in person. I now officially like them. A lot! But you didn't mention them, or the FX series, in your initial post so I don't know if you've already ruled them out for some reason? If not then do yourself a favor and at least test drive the M45. If a G35C isn't too small then this one won't be. If you have ruled them out, then (while I think a dark silver or red G35C is one of the best looking cars on the road and a blast to drive!) check the Q out very seriously. Also a great value and while price isn't everything, the G coupe is in appropriately (?) high demmand and it's price reflects that. Plus, how does one turn away from 340 ponies?.....

If I was practical, I'd still be driving that flawless 93 Honda Accord I had. But I'm a joy-seeker so I have a Q.

Anyway, the G35 is a fair amount cheaper to begin with, and will hold its value over time. That's something to keep in mind if youre the type who trades every 2-4 years or leases.

Seems like the dealer would let you drive each one for a weekend. If you want the capacity of the Q, but the handling of the G, a G35 6MT sedan is a nice compromise. It really depends more on how you will use the vehicle, and not on your age.

This has been a great thread.

Your perception of 'old' obviously changes with age & modern medicine. :D

I'm 36 & divorcing with 3 'child seat age' kids, so I need an 02+ Q now that I've wet my whistle with a 1st gen Q.

Your position may be different.

A man's choice of automobile says a lot about him. Question is:

When you tire of keeping up with the "Bambi's" what will make you feel the most like "you" during client lunches, weddings, funerals, etc.

I always ask myself the wedding/funeral question.

I've driven, at length, G35 & 350Z supercharged cars. They're quick, but not comfortably quick, nor worth the ingress/egress effort that's a non-issue in a Q.

One would never feel like a kid in a Q.

When the mid-life crisis is over, which are you going to be ok with?

I agree. I'm 35, with a 14 year old daughter. She helped me pick out my J30. Said it was the perfect balance between a cool car and a car an old guy my age (her words) would buy. Heheh. I do have to agree with her though. I do feel good driving around in it, I think it fits my style, and it still looks "cool".

I strongly recommend the 2003 or 2004 M45! My personal choice would be in this order: M45, G35 Coupe, Q45, G35 Sedan. The Q45 has the most room, the G35 Coupe has the sporty feel, and the M45 blends the best of both!

The M45 dimensions are very similar in size to the G35 dimensions, but it is a bit more roomy inside, although less than the Q45. It handles better than the Q45, accelerates faster, etc. A fantastic car, and a complete surprise to me as to why it is not selling better!

Another reason: I am always interested in cars that don't look like other cars on the road. Hence, the current-gen Q45 does not cut it for me - I once mistook one from the side for a Maxima. (Sorry, folks, I do not mean to step on current-gen Q45 owner toes!) The future 2005 M45 pictures are also too much like many Lexus and Mercs on the roads.

The unique styling of the first-gen Q45 was why I bought that car in 1991 and why I have my current 2003 M45. It is unique and instantly recognizable on the road. Also a rare car (I have only seen two on the road in the Bay Area other than mine, of course!)

But, regardless of your decision, you will not go wrong with any of the three models of Infiniti. :D

Z

P.S. I am almost 48, and I do not consider either the M45 or G35 too "young" for me! :D

Ah, but on the loaded Q45, the rear seats slide down into position ... ;)

Wow, looks I am late to the party.

Seeing as how I have a G35 coupe. I think you all know where my vote lies. While the newer Gen Q's are very nice, I am not a big fan of the styling. It just seems too common . Heck, it looks like a slightly bigger I35. The G coupe in my very honest opinion is the best looking car on the market under $40,000. It has everything one could need. It has a really nice power and performance and is getting to be highly modable. It has a back seat if you absolutely need it. It may not be the most comfortable back seat, but it is usefull. It has a great blend of performance, style and luxury that can't be found elsewhere for under $40,000. The Q has performance, not the quickness of the G coupe and it has luxury, a little nicer than the G coupe. But, I think it is really lacking in the whole styling arena. I do want to say that if you like the styling of the current M45, that it may be the way to go. For the price, I find it hard to beat for what it offers. However, the styling isn't for everyone. The new 05 M45, I think looks like an amazing car, but the price should be quite a bit higher than an '02 Q, new loaded Gcoupe or current M45.

The age argument should be moot. I don't think the G has the impression of a mid-life crisis car. And if you look on the streets today, there are alot of guys driving nice sports cars. The G is an enthusiasts car. Everybody loves a nice sports car, it has nothing to do with age.

Now with all that said, it is ultimately a decision of which car you like best. Which car will you enjoy more and have more fun in? For me, it is deffinetly a G coupe. For Wes, it is the Q. What is it for you? Take them both out and see what feels right. It is different for each person.

Keep us updated on what you're doing. You have many interested parties here wondering who is going to win, the G coupe or the Q.

To clarify my point about the age thing, I was merely pointing the image concept of each car. We do buy based on how we are going to look :-)...

I do agree with your assesment of what some people think of when they see the car, but it shouldn't affect your purchase.

I didn't buy on how I was going to look. I bought based on how the car looked and how the car performs. I don't give a **** what anyone thinks of me based upon my car. I'm sure that plenty of people think that young people with really nice cars are spoiled and have parents that buy everything for them. So what. You need to be confident enough to not worry what others think of you based upon what you drive. I would never buy a car based upon what I think someone thinks of me. That just seems way too superficial. I am of the train of thought that you should buy what pleases you as long as you can afford it and it meets your needs, not based upon perceptions of others.

I agree with Ryan... However, I think that a car should be a reflection of you personality (and usually is)....

Its not a matter of how you look, its how it fits you.!!!!!

If you didnt give a monkeys arse, youd drive a honda... That says a lot about most people..

I think the Q fits my personality (without going into specifics) perfect, and Ryans G fits him perfect... I think I would look good in a G, but I may not feel right... And im SURE that ryan wouldnt feel right in a 1st gen like mine!!!!!

Hey Justin,Just about everyone on this site would agree that you couldn’t go wrong with a new Infiniti Q or G coupe. I would say test drive em all. Before I bought mine I tested the I-35, G35c, & G-35 sedan. I think the coupe is truly a work of art one that has my attention. Oh the Q, that’s like the ultimate cruiser with all the bells and whistles and 340 hp. However, fully loaded G sedan 6mt would be a good compromise. Sporty(youth), luxury(adult), usable reclining rear seats(thoughtful), pop up navigation(lost), six speed manual(control), and head turning good looks. The money you save buying the G could go toward aftermarket upgrades for additional power and what nots. I'd say it's like I want the coupe but also want four adults to be able to ride with me if necessary. Kev...

i agree with Z that maybe you should check out the M45!!! the Q engine in a smaller package. i know i would not want to give up my 90Q for a new Q, just don't like the styling and how it leans a little too much toward luxury. if it was me, my choice would be between the M45 and the G35 coupe. drive both then let us know!!!!jeff

I am approx your age ( I think) so i would enjoy both.

Just for myself I think the Q is the nicer car.

But if you want an additional boost with the ladies, G35C is it.

Very attractive to dental hygenists in the 18-23 age bracket and other desibrable demographics.

IF you think you MAY look goofy in a G35, then this thought will haunt you as long as you own the car. You will always be wondering what people are thinking when you get out of your car or are sitting in traffic and look around to see if people are noticing you because of your sweet ride. If you think a Q45 is more fitting to your age, then in the long run you will probably be happier with the Q.

I'm 43, look 35, act 25, and just bought my first Q. I choose the Q because of the luxury I feel like I now deserve, and the speed/power I've always wanted.

That is true.

I am 29 look 20 and act 18~21 The Z is perfect for my personality and needs. It replaced a 74 Vette in my garage as a more reliable Fun car.

The G35c fits into a similar catigory with a more practial and luxury side with the back seats and leather, power seats, refined interior,ect...

I still say who cares what everyone thinks, but I have been that way all my life.

I could care less what people think. If I did care, I'd have forked our 50k for a NEW Q. Instead, I bought a '95 w/153k miles on e-Bay for $3450. I bought a Q for two reasons. 1) the ride itself, and 2) to see if I might want to buy that new Q in a couple of years. But, I can't remember his name, the guy who started this thread, said he was concerned he'd look goofy as a 45 year old in a G35. I wouldn't. What I care about is luxury AND performance. A few second looks from the girls doesn't hurt either.

Man, I Xymol-ed my car tonight, and you should see it shine. Looks showroom.

Funny, I just used a new Tech wax and mine shines nicely as well qball. I think it's the first wax in years for the car, but man, it did the job! The Pirelli's are jet black and shining too!!! Uhhhmmm. Looks new. Awesome that the old Q style looks like it could be next years model. Can't tell it's 12 years old at all. Put a can of BG44K in the tank and went for a ride. Go for a Q!

Yeah boy! I love that Xymol. Expensive as hll, but it does the trick. I washed, polished (meguiares scratch & swirl remover) and Xymol-ed last Saturday, but the pollen is SO bad here right now you wouldn't believe it. Overnight the car turns yellow, and don't wash for 3 days, forget it, it looks like it should be in the junkyard. So I washed tonight and figured I might as well give it a second coat. Well worth the effort.

redman, is your Q black?

Hey redman, I used the Injector cleaner with Techron on Tuesday and it worked, got that smooth power curve back between 4-7k rpm.

My Q is Forest Green with light Tan, almost white interior...and carpet, which is a downer. I'll see how that can of BG44K works, it comes highly praised! I feel you on the pollen!! Man Carolina has got some Pollen don't we, even at the Beach!! My Q glows florescent yellow every morning. I'll slip a second coat on as well. We must think alike. This weekend is the spark plug change. I need it.

Mines Forest Green too, with a buckskin tan interior, or a little darker/oranger than buckskin, almost a Ferarri colored interior, w/beige carpet. She's looking sweet this morning, not much crp settled on it overnight.

Hey, I need to re-stripe mine. How do you get the old pinstriping off? Anyone know?

If it's the regular stick on vinyl pinstriping, you can remove it with an eraser wheel. Call an *Automotive* paint supply place & they'll know what you're asking for.

It is exactly what it sounds like, a large, round, eraser you attach to a drill (if you don't have air tools) and it removes it cleanly.

You have to compound & wax afterwards & you'll be able to see where it was because of the paint fading around it, but if you're good, you can go back over in the same spot.

Hope that helps.

Thanks HD. Eraser wheel for like a Dreme tool? I wouldn't think waxing after removal. Wouldn't this prevent the adhesive on the striping from sticking well?
