i got a ka/sr C's short shifter from japan. i knew it wouldnt work on the rb25 because of the bushing so i swapped them, installed the shifter, and everything looked good until i tried 5 or reverse. the shifter wont even move to the right.

any ideas? hopefully i can still use that shifter

man i thought that the ka/sr shifter is different overall than the rb, i now u could change the bushing but every time i seen a short shifter fs it says it wont fit the rb, even though the oem shifter is very similar maybe the short shifter is design different..

i took it apart again and the problem is that the shifter is a little bit longer so the bushing would hit the bolt on the left side

I am currently running a C's short shifter in a RB25DET trans with no problems.
I had to make the aluminum spacer for it since mine didn't come with one. i can't remember the exact specc, but it was the same measurements i got off someone else tha was selling a kit out of a KA,
also it said KA/SR/RB on the phanplet that came with it.

Ka sr and rb20 not 25. Idk how I would make a spacer since the c clip that holds the shifter don't is already towards the top

that is the exact one i bought, but from another seller. notice how the booklet says S13/S14/R31/R32/R33/Z31 on the front of it, and the guy has a pic of it installed on a KA.

If it is that one it should fit. i just got measurements from someone selling a used one for the ring, and it all came together fine.

I remember i did have to sand down the top a bit to get mine to fit, but i didn't think much of it as i had the spacer machined from a guy measuring with a ruler.

If it is hitting, wouldn't that mean that you have it too low? does the C ring and the spacer and the half moon clamps all line up? did you put the plastic cup back on the ball? can you pull it up once it is installed?

are you using the stock RB25 spacer? if so that is your problem. try and use the one that came with the shifter, and sand it down a MM or two if needed.

If you aren't using all the stuff in the pic that i liked to, you have it set up wrong.

i dont have the brown circle or the metal ring on the right...

and when i installed it, the small oval ring and half moon thing went it, and i cant raise the shifter any higher.

the brown circle is just a seal. i didn't have one, it works. the metal ring on the right is what i had fabed up. i wish i had saved the PMs that give the exact specs that i had it made to, but the lack of that spacer is probably the reason you are hitting.

there you go. you have to put the metal piece in to space it up and make it work right.

to quote:

the metal bushing goes underneath u put that in first, then the plastic yellow piece with the metal cylinders, then the yellow plastic washer/bushing.

the metal goes on the bottom to make up for the higher position of the metal ball on the short throw.

you would hit as you are saying if you didn't space it up.

Put in the spacer.

Like so. Insert wave washer.

Insert the plastic piece with the rods

Insert the lower half of the shifter, make sure you lube the white nipple.

Now the plastic retainer. If you have a gasket to cover the plastic parts insert now. I don't have it for some reason, but I'm doing without it :-/

Put on the bracket with the C on the bottom with with the nut facing down. Screw the top piece on and then put on the plastic cover. (Sorry forgot to take a pic in between the two steps.

Screw on the second half of the shifter.

Put on the dust boot and the metal bracket.

Then put the consul assembly back on fallowed by the knob.
