I know that there's suppose to be an indicator light that tells you what gear you're in on the instrument cluster. But mine isn't working or not lighting up to show that I'm in drive, etc. What can I start to look to fix it?

Unfortunately, your '99 QX4 does not have shift indicators in the instrument cluster at all.

The 2000 does not have it either. I believe only 2002 - 2004 R50s have the shifter indicator lights in the instrument cluster.

One more thing while I'm on lights. I changed the light for the shifter indicator and it's working but now the one for the ashtray isn't working and it's a new bulb. Any ideas on what it could be and why it isn't working?

The ashtray bulb only lights up with the side marker lights or headlights on, did you check with them on?

You can also check for voltage at the bulb socket using a multimeter. If you don't get 12v, there is a wiring issue somewhere.

Ya It doesn't come on when my head lights come on.
Could I change the bulbs in my climate control unit as well?

I would check for voltage at the bulb socket, then.

Yes, you can replace those with LEDs or I believe 12v micro bulbs (Radio Shack has them). I believe they should be accessible from the top of the unit, just follow the steps for radio removal but remove the climate control unit instead (or at least unscrew it and push it down under out of the housing so the top is easily accessible).

Great to hear it! What was the issue with the ashtray bulb?

Make sure your glove box bulb works too. :)

No worries. Maybe something was loose. I know the bulb socket can be kinda finicky, I have an LED bulb in there and it has some tiny leads. If it wiggles or vibrates too much it'll just lose contact and won't light up. Sure is irritating sometimes.

Where can I get bulbs for all the little knobs and such? I looked in the glove compartment for a bulb socket and couldn't find it. But, I would like to know where to get the bulbs with the flat bottom plastic backing that lights up the 4wd drive knob and the defoster button as nd such. I looked on the sticky thread but I don't see anywhere on there where he he says where to get the bulbs for the 4wd knob.

Remove the glove box and you'll find where the bulb housing attaches to the glove box.

I'm not sure what bulbs the 4WD selector knob uses. Can you provide a picture?

Hazard & defroster switches use 12v micro bulbs which you can buy from Radio Shack. A/C and recirculation buttons do too.

I went to radio shack and asked them about a microbulb and they know what I was talking about. Do you have a pic of it?

I completely removed the glove box abd didn't see the bulb housing. I tried following the wire and didn't see anything.

No soldering is required with the micro lamps. You feed their leads through the socket and cut off excess.

That's odd, maybe your glove box has no lamp. I'll snap a picture of mine for you soon.

Ok cool on the lamps. But ya you would think it would have a light in it for a vehicle like this.

Here's the look of the bulbs I'd like to replace. The bigger one goes in the bigger one goes in the climate control and the small one is for the 4wd knob. Wait.....how do I post a picture?

Ok. I think I have it. I had to register first but I did go to where it gave a long list of sites but I didn't see where it said anything about a forum.

Well, I'm doing it off my phone because my desktop is too slow for this. Have you did it from a cell before?
