I've had my '09 Rogue for almost 2.5 years. Last week the service engine light came on and I took it to the dealer and the code came up as something with a sensor in the gas tank. (side note, right when I got the car I changed the gas cap to a locking one and have never had a problem, I mention this because aparently aftermarket gas caps have been known to cause this error). Now the dealer said the error was weird because it was a sensor or something (can't remember exactly). The light had come on right when my tank went almost bone dry and then filled it up. So he figured it had something to do with that and cleared the code. He said if it comes back to bring it in and they would have to take apart the whole gas tank and whatever else, apparently a big job.

I think the warrenty would still cover this since it shouldn't be related to the gas cap. Just in case I will bring it in to the dealer with the original gas cap on it.

Anyone else come across this?

Bit too late to mention this, but you shouldn't drive the car till the tank is "almost bone dry".
Fill up when you hit 1/4 of a tank.
I dare say the dealer was right, and the check engine light came on because of this.
If it comes back, it probably means you will need a new fuel sender unit.
Has the problem come back, or is it still ok?

darylzero, see if you can find out which error code it was. It might help us figure it out.

There has been a few ongoing issues with failed purge/vent solenoids with the Rogue and other Nissans. My Rogue has had TWO of these purge solenoids fail in the past 2 years. The symptom was the same: a P0455 error code. The first replacement was the newly re-designed part that supposedly fixed the problem, then the new part failed as well. The second one has been in there about 8-9mos. We'll see how long it lasts.

The solenoid is actually not difficult to replace. There is a nice little repair tutorial here: vent-control-valve-replacement-step-by- ... 14045.html
