yeah its a case of the ads are 2Mb and when you post a quote reply, it loads the entire ad before it loads the quoted text to reply, so you end up waiting like 10 seconds before your quote text shows up... why the text shows up in javascript is totally beyond me in the first place, stupid scripting IMO.numbnuts240 wrote:ohhhhh it's a resource thing? in that case
numbnuts240 wrote:i deal with that on a regular basis. idk, i don't get computers enough to be bothered i guess.
this crappy javascript to insert the quote text:numbnuts240 wrote:i deal with that on a regular basis. idk, i don't get computers enough to be bothered i guess.
Try doing it from a mobile device on 3G and not WiFi, it's 10x as bad.RobPaulson wrote:as a fellow nerd i support this thread.
not that its bad enough to detour me from visiting, however, the performance issues are rather noticeable.
lol thats like toyota saying the solution to sticking gas pedals is to not use the gas pedal.Jesda wrote:Opera Mini on the Blackberry is only capable of text and still images, so its cool.
If only Toyota owners would think that way and stay home.tg wrote:

I would hope so!PapaSmurf2k3 wrote:that's a pretty damn big ad... I would have thought we would have size limits on the ads.
I wonder if any of this crap will change when we change forum software.
send me ssh access to the web server and I'll have it fixed by this afternoon. Put it as read-only I'll test it and send you the files that need changing.AZhitman wrote:Two thoughts here:
1) We're way ahead of ya. These things take time, tho. Software upgrade on the way, and a more efficient way of serving sponsor banners as well....
2) Lots of criticism from you, but not once have I seen you step up with an offer of assistance. The staff here bust their a$$es to keep this place up and running...
So maybe rather than being rude, and acting like you could do SO much better, how about pointing issues out via email, or better yet, bringing some of your supposed expertise to the table?
When someone provides something to you for free, you don't b**** about it unless you're willing to pitch in and help fix it.
well, its delayed by several things, but if it loaded with the page instead of javascript, then it wouldn't have to wait for the entire page to load before putting your quote in the reply box (sometimes mid-ways though your sentence).RCA wrote:This sounds awesome
Had no idea TG was a programmer. Any who just a thought, I always used to have to wait for that LONNNG wait time when editing/quoteing but soon I realized all you need to do it press the "X" or "Stop" button after waiting 2-3 seconds. I never knew it was delayed because of ads...
Every interesting.
Well, i don't need to write anything to the server or have access to the database, just revise the scripts and send them back. I can also have a look at how the zeroforum script works and likely speed things up significantly.Dattebayo wrote:I wonder if NICO would really hand-off the keys to the server to a stranger like that tho.. :/
I say old chap! This is no clever ruse! To test this I have returned on my phone and have indeed found it out to be true!Jesda wrote:Opera Mini on the Blackberry is only capable of text and still images, so its cool.
I'm posting from a stinkin' Motorola Karma with no issues. :pRobPaulson wrote:i know, thats why i never post from my iphone
You can offer access with permissions.Dattebayo wrote:I wonder if NICO would really hand-off the keys to the server to a stranger like that tho.. :/
Thanks, Captain Obvious. We're all much more enlightened now.PoorManQ45 wrote:

In this case permissions would need to be set to read only, and sections of view limited.
This type of thing is done everyday.
And you never edit the main server directly. You test in a sandbox and then update the server. This minimizes downtime.
tg, that's much appreciated. I'm reluctant to move forward on anything related to ZF right now, since we won't be using it for much longer.tg wrote:Well, i don't need to write anything to the server or have access to the database, just revise the scripts and send them back. I've seen the new relynet forum replacement for zeroforum (livetopic) and it has the same issues as zeroforum. Anyways, I'm willing to spend some time on it if it will make things better for everyone, myself included. I wont charge for it, just a friendly service.
