What Raid controller are you using, and what bus is it one?

What is the rest of your system? What's it used for if it's a "home" system?

Also, what was your test setup? The maximum theoretical read speed you could get from that configuration should be 230 x 8. 1840
lsi megaraid 9260-8i (pcie 8x)

the drives with their base firmware (which is crap) and default block allocation do 230Mb/s, in reality on a good controller with the newest firmware people have been getting north of 300 with them in sequential read tests when properly optimized. In comparison, with my previous raid card, I was only able to get about 1300-1400Mb/s with 8 drives (and old firmware) and 1100 off of 4, so it was the bottlneck.

This is a system I use at home to do some testing/dev work (with several virtual machines on it), some 3d and 2d design, some video editing, some gaming -- a good mix of everything. As you can tell by the OP, I don't like waiting around for things to load.

What's the rest of the system specs?

Thats pretty much been established thus far.

In another thread, I did however find out that though his nerdiness is high, he has no knowledge of popular 80's film.

I would prefer to show it to an employer. That way I make money to use my knowledge rather then having to pay to show someone my knowledge.

Again, you really are quite dense.

You observed an occurrence and immediately assumed it was the effect of anything we'd done, then asked if some completely unrelated action was the cause.

I love how you always assume that what you prefer matters to anyone besides you.

Good luck getting an interview with no credentials - Regardless of what you know, without credentials, you're a liability.

Would Job experience, open source contributions, technical papers, and hand written recommendations from key figures be considered credentials? Because if not...I'm doing pretty damn well for myself as a high school drop out.!

Edit: let me add that I do have a multiple certs now and a degree. But those things came wayyy later in my career.

Note the use of the word "you".

Greg, I know you're getting old and grumpy, but come on man.

I asked a serious question.

You stated that your system administrator makes $120k, but he doesn't have any credentials to his name.

Then you made a statement saying that this is not possible. the usage of the word "you" in your statement was not clearly defined and therefore shall be interpreted as a broad meaning of anyone without credentials.

So, if you would drop the "learn how it works yourself" act and please be so kind as to enlighten me of how a person with no credentials attained such a lofty position.

By not being a toolbag!

I know many people with no paper qualifications, but can and do the job better than people who do have them (or atleast up to standard).

No one got promoted to be the DON by saying "you guys suck, im better than you"

The DON gets to be the DON by lifting the spirits and expertise about the support staff around them.

I dont know what the hell is being discussed in this thread for the most part, but I do know that based upon your tone, I could really care less what you have to say....

What you should be doing is offering help toward a solution, then my ears are listening.

That's an excellent way for things to happen, but every company I have seen has a system in place that literally requires you to have certain credentials to advance beyond a certain point.

The only people that are above those points without credentials have typically been there for many years, and were there prior to the company requiring credentials.

This is the basis for my lack of understanding for what you are saying.

Many CEO's started as stock room clerks, and often times "techies" have no personal skills, thats why your credentials need to be on paper because they cant speak up for themselves and sell themselves!

Again, your ignorance astounds.

You disrespectfully (and mistakenly) attribute my irritation with you to something other than the true cause.

I know 14-year old girls who are less clueless.
PoorManQ45 wrote:You stated that your system administrator makes $120k, but he doesn't have any credentials to his name.
And?

Maybe he interviews well. Maybe he worked his way up from Help Desk Tech. Maybe he's blowing the boss.

You'd do well to brush up on all three, in case the whole school thing doesn't pan out for you.
PoorManQ45 wrote: Then you made a statement saying that this is not possible. the usage of the word "you" in your statement was not clearly defined and therefore shall be interpreted as a broad meaning of anyone without credentials.
I meant "you", exactly as it's spelled. You. The guy this text is directed at. That's you. Point at yourself. That's the guy. Him. You. The guy that's unlikely to become as SysAdm w/o credentials. That's you.
