Yeah i heard a lot of people were buying aftermarket shortshifters and the plastic bushings that came with them were cheap and broke after a couple months of use. Either that or they made a rattling noise. I considered getting the $2 oem one from courtesy parts (http://www.courtesyparts.com/32861-bush ... 68621.html) but i decided that the brass would never get worn out or break so i thought id give it a try. I'm holding onto it for the time being cause JSAMotors is considering trading me for a non-HICAS pump. If i end up buying one though or if you have a spare you want to swap me you can have it.

ThanksWish it didn't piss the girlfriend off so much when i went there. "I'm not your first priority yadda yadda yadda" lol.

Small update:I'm retarded and i didn't put the heater hoses on before i dropped the engine in, so putting the new ones on was unenjoyable, but only took like 20 mins of bleeding hands =). Brought the camera this timeWhy put an emblem where no one will ever see it?At least they put one on top.Looks sad and broken. We'll just say napping.ECU and dash plug installed, i need to pull the carpet and clean/dye it. The shortshifter is in but i forgot to fill the trans first Shhh! Dont tell Allstate i sawzawed(sp?) my bumper. Looks pretty good for being a cxracing kit..i think. Thas all for now. Need more time there

So as far as fluids go..is there particular brands recommended or should i just roll up to autozone for some synthetic blend 10w30 motor oil, some regulars undiluted coolant, power steering fluid, and DOT 3 brake fluid for the trans?

I'm not a frequent poster on here but I would say Mobil 1 full synthetic for oil, whatever for coolant, same with powersteering I guess, but did you just say DOT 3 brake fluid to go into the trans???? Hopefully I misread that somehow, but for the transmission I would go with 3 qts. Amsoil 75W-90 GL-4. If it weren't for my s***ty KA transmission/ synchros I'm sure I would love it more. And if I were you, I would just use a torque wrench with a 1/2 in. drive and undo the fill plug to fill up the transmission. But then again I bought a pump for that when I ordered my fluid.

Thanks Krew i did end up getting some 75w 90 gear oil/mobil 1 full synthetic lol i dont know where in the hell i got the crazy notion to use brake fluid. I was wondering whether or not that would be possible through the drain plug, the pump makes sense. How much did that cost you/where did you get it?

No, it would not be possible to do it through the drain plug. I was trying to find the pump earlier because I ordered it on the Amsoil website when I got my transmission fluid. The top part that you screw onto the bottle is made specifically for Amsoil bottles but I'm sure you could make it work with something else because of the adapter pieces you get with it.Ok just looked it up and it's about $11 straight from Amsoil, just search on their website for "G2039-EA" that's the product ID, and it'll be the first one that comes up.

I'm close. Intake on, filter attached, MAF plugged in(not pictured).I didn't wire the gauges up but they are installed on the A-pillar.Had to take my stupid shifter back out to fill the trans AND i had to take the starter back off, and the starter wires, to get access to the oil pressure sending unit again. I didn't read the instructions BEFORE i installed it but apparently teflon tape will inhibit the ground and give the gauge an inaccurate reading. I also needed to attach that one little wire. I should stop creating work for myself and do things in the right order from now on Then i changed the oil/filter/magnetic drain plug + some Mobil1 Full Synthetic 10w30. And i swapped out the fuel pump for the Walbro.

Thats all i did tonight. Rough draft checklilst:

Hooked up the random rubber hoses and grounded my engine. Got a non HICAS power steering pump for christmas so i installed that and the belt/reservoir/lines. I checked over all of the bolts and filled it with coolant. Attached the battery cables and fixed the throttle cable. I can't believe the car turned over on the first crank.(Much thanks Zach-ka and Papasmurf) I went to press the clutch and as soon as i touched it it dropped to the floor and stayed there i spose it needs bled now. But she turned right over after i gave her some gas. It sounds really rough though. I still want to hook up the gauges/turbo timer/boost gauge and i also haven't put the exhaust on so that is why it is so loud. It sounds worse in person than it does in the video haha. Thanks nico for the help, a fool like me can swap an sr and start it first try in a place like this.

Congrats on the motor turning over right away. Well done.

I'm still interested in that HICAS PS pump if you're want to selling it.

I got in a big snafu and ended up selling this heap o' headache to my bro. It took us a long time to figure out the oil pump was what was causing our problems. Once we did, my brother replaced it and the engine sounds good now albeit very loud w/out exhaust. So we bled the clutch (which somehow magically decided to start working) and dropped it on some steelies for its maiden voyage.
Image
Very happy to see it move, hasn't driven under her own power since May 2nd, 2009.
Anyways, still a lot to get done, mostly just petty s***. We lost our catalytic converter so we need another one of those and we needa lift the intercooler up a bit (the brackets they sent suck) Also has a power steering leak but i think its just a worn hose. The gauges need hooked up and the interior/body need put back together. But it was a major step in the right direction.
