1994 Q45. The memory buttons (#1 & 2) on the driver door are both blinking ALL THE TIME, even when car is turned off. I cant set the memory and cant get them to go off. Also the steering wheel stopped moving yesterday when I turn the car off. Any ideas?

Remove a battery cable for a while to reset everything. The automatic tilt cancel button is on the left side of the steering column.

Another NICO member recently had similar symptoms and cured them by examining the battery cables - found bad connections, replaced them, and the symptoms went away. Check your cables.

This started from trying to fix the cigarette lighter in the front of the car. The fuse was blown and I replaced it, since then steering wheel doesnt move and these lights are on. Might just take out the cigarette lighter fuse and see if that solves the problem.

Thanks

There is a weird process for re-activating the memory function that controls the automatic seat/mirror function. I forget eactly what it is, but it involves turning the ignition on and off and opening and closing the driver's door several times. Maybe someone has the exact combination of how it needs to be done. It's goofy, but it works. Also, be sure that you didn't inadvertently turn the auto function off by bumping the on-off switch on the steering column, maybe when you looked for and/or changed the fuse for the cig lighter. It's easy to do by accident.

Not sure about the memory lights blinking, especially when ignition off. Try resetting the body computer by disconnecting the batt cable and waiting a few minutes as suggested. That will also remove all other memory settings, like seats, mirrors, radio, etc, as well as the ECU, which will have to re-learn your driving techniques afterward before it settles in. Until it does, you may notice a slight reduction in performance, fuel mileage, and shifting, but it will return to normal after a short time.

Be sure to let us know how y6ou make out so others can learn from your problem.

Yeah I tried the Cancel button on the steering column with no effect. The only other thing I did was replace the brake pads on the rear and bypass the brakes worn signal on both front and rear.

Also my steering wheel will telescope in and out but will not move up or down.

I will investigate more tonight and figure it out. I will start with unplugging the battery and go from there. check fuses, etc.

I think maybe my 2 year old kid somehow started the on board diagnostic mode by hitting the defogger button several times.

Unplugging the battery made the lights quit blinking.

However, my steering wheel is not moving when i turn the car off like its supposed to?

You must re-initialize it. It's in a TSB or the FSM and several posts here.

Probably not, but worth checking.I think Maxnix is right, that it has to be re-initialized. That's what I was talking about.

Capncash, you can download the FSM from Phat20 if you haven't done so already. It will tell you the process of turning the ignition on and off and opening and closing the doors to do that that I mentioned. I had to do that once on my G50. It sounds like a weird procedure, but it's what you have to do to re-initialize the auto seat/wheel/mirrors function for when you get into and out of the car.

Keep us posted.

Had it bookmarked. Try this:

AUTOMATIC DRIVE POSITIONER RESET

Before you start the procedure, remove the neg. cable from the battery,(for about 5 to 10 minutes has worked for me) put the cable back. I have used Elecrtic grease on the post( since I have not had the problem) make sure you have a better then good contact. Now you can start the procedure.

1. Open the driver's door2. Turn the key to the Run position3. Turn the key all the way back off, but don't remove the key4. Close the door5. Wait about 1 minute6. Open the door; the memory function should work now.

Ive had this happen to my Q 3 times. Seems very random... All you have to do is unplug the battery.

Heres the procedure I use, you dont have to make it as complicated as the TSB does.

1. Close door2. Unplug battery3. Plug in battery4. open door5. Insert key (just put it in dont turn it)6. Open the drivers door 2-3 times7. Get in car, re-adjust seat, and redline immediately (assuming that its already at proper operating temp.)...

Jeff Williams has the same problem. Said it was something like a relay in the door that causes it to happen. I think he said his just got worse and worse.

After unplugging the battery. The blinking lights stopped and a couple of days later the steering wheel miraculously started working again.

Heck, my memory positioner only works when I lower the steering wheel just a touch, then press "1" or "2"... It works on Exit every time... Jeeze...
