The ring was a joke as far as Im concerned. It was pretty odd, but not scary.

The Shining.

Had me completely suckered thinking it was all in Jack's head and then the wife sees some of the debotched party goers as she's fleeing from her ax wielding husband.

I get the willies just writing it down.

Has to be seen on the big screen for maximum horror.

Kubrik is a genius.

I second In the Mouth of Madness and Ju-On. Both great movies.

I'd recommend a few other obscure horror titles:

1. Onibaba - not a horror movie per say but very moody and very creepy.2. The Changeling- I dare anyone to watch the attic scene with the wheel-chair by themselves in a dark room3. Dark Water - many sleepless nights followed after watching this movie4. The Haunting - (50's movie)we never catch a glimpse of any specters...just sonorous whispers, rattling, knocking, etc. and yet this movie chilled me to the bone...pure genius.5. It's been mentioned a dozen times but Alien is a cinematic masterpiece! Some of the most effective uses of sound and editing ever.
