Hey guys recognize the name? Anyways, I hear and read all the time about how you guys are saving up for the Supercharger.... Right? Well if your going to spend all the money doing that, Why not just buy the T88 Turbo made by GReddy(turbo only), Find a shop who can make you a custom Exhaust manifold and all the other little goodies? I mean Look, let's face it... the racing scene with superchargers is old and now being replaced by turbo's. Bmw, Mercades, DODGE and others are all stepping up the ladder and going turbo. I figure that with a Turbo on the Vh45De... with the slow Take off, The turbo will blend right on the power range with full spoll from 3200-3500 Rpm range and so on, will cause the motor to Blast into High Rpms. The Q has NO Low Rpm power at all. Adding a turbo will advance the High Rpm power that is already created by the motor.

I know I know, " The supercharger will kick right when you step on the gas....." I got something to say about Power right off the line.... Automatic turbo'd cars can Boost off the line up to 8 Psi if you have a Torque converter. If you don't believe me ask Titan Motorsports which owns the fastest street car record with a Auto Supra(Turbo)... Easy Street, They Specialize in WRX's...Owns the Fastest Wrx which is Auto(Turbo)! Like I said, after reading about how someone did some mods to there Q, And Posting about how they can get the front wheels off the ground and have a little bit of tracking probs......(i think that's right) C'mon the Supercharger won't have any help for the off the line time, in addition ONLY 7-8 psi ? Geez! I'm PRETTY sure that a superchagered Q with bolts will barely break into mid 12's maybe low 12's. Still the SC will cause major wheel spin like all the other Domestics trying to Pull of the line on little Civics.... I have a Japanese Mag with pics of Turbo Q's with the Set up of the T88 Turbo.... but I'm in search of the Option 2 Video of the Turbo'd Q Beating Supras, Skylines, and other Super Sport Cars...

So yeah, After thinking about what to do with a Q....

A Q45 w/ 150 Shot, Single Turbo, Rear Diff Change, JUN ECU(Yes i said JUN #1 Import Racing Company Makes a Chip for the Q), NO TCU(not Lazy to put the car in 1st) Boost Controller, Torque Conterter, Intake, Full turbo backing exhaust, Wider tires with Possibly Volk racing rims (Q45Racing Not CHROME!...) with 1 - 1.5 bar of boost... I'd say that'll beat anyone out on the road and track today. As for street class..

Sorry guys i had to say what's on my mind. It was bugging me. :)

I would like a turbo, but it's a pipe dream.

Designing a custom manifold, and all the parts will be very expensive. if you can do it, by all means, do it. You will have plenty of orders. The whole point to the supercharger is, all the custom designing has been done, already.

T88s are lag city, btw...

I'm not looking for a completely unstreetable car..

A t78 would be much better.

I've driven t88 supras, too much lag..

No offense, but I'm getting tired of posts, saying why not go turbo..

The founder of Nico worked very hard with one of the best Supercharger designers in the country, to make a solution for our cars. All these posts are pipedreams. If you can make a kit for Nico, then do it. Don't bash superchargers. Thomas Knight, stopped using turbos. Mercedez still uses superchargers, on alot more of their models, then turbos.

Don't get me wrong, I like turbos over supercharging, but I need a power solution, not a wallet drain, that leaves my car in the shop for infinite amount of time.

THE FACT REMAINS

Supercharging is the only turn key solution currently available for the Q. Period.

Don't get me wrong, I do love the feeling of the Turbo jolt but the plumbing for a single turbo would be a nightmarish pile of worms. The Vh45 is so wide it that you would probably have to give up many of the options every Q came with such as AC, PS, CC, ABS to mount a turbo sized large enough for the Q's potential. Even the Q that ran 2 smaller turbines had huge sections cut into the hood because they wouldn't fit anywhere else. There is just not enough room at the firewall and wheel tubs for the required hotside/coldside plumbing. Finding a good hotside crossover point under the car is no party either.

In short I feel the turbo concept is fun to think about for a dedicated track Q but the $$$/HP ratio is just too high with everything it would take to make it peform well. A well designed, off the shelf, SC may not be as potent but it does fill that low end power gap without reinventing the wheel. Sure a SC/s output will crapout well below redline but the Q has never seemed to lack power above 4500 rpm anyway.

Exactly. It's all about getting us to the VVT.

Go drive an XJR.

I PROMISE you, you will want a supercharger. The thing about the XJR, it doesn't have that much high end power, but still runs 13s.. I'm telling you with the XJR low end power (eaton) and the high end power of our vvt v8s, it would be a match made in heaven.

A serious consideration concerning the SC vs. T question is fuel magagement. An SC is much easier to map due to it's linear boost characteristics. A piggyback unit would probably be very attainable (Link, etc) for an SC. Any turbo that spooled too quickly would present a serious A/F challenge to any tuner hoping for anything but a standalone ECU designed for a strip car. The chances of accurate off boost air/fuel response and idle stability are slim for a streetable Q without serious high dollar investment.

Face it, the Q is a 4100 lb. tunaboat, with any type of forced induction it just becomes a faster tunaboat with bad manners.

While camshaft timing overlap is good for evacuating naturally aspirated cylinders, it is usually avoided when the intake charge is pressurized.

Highway has hit another issue.

JWT has already addressed the ecu, for the supercharger. We can get boost mapping for 500 bucks..

there are 4 companies in japan that make custom ecu for the Q, Impul, Junction-Produce, Brain, & Hasemi sports. In the US JWT, Stillen, Jet & plus who knows howmany other clones....

Only thing about the BAD SC Q is the pics don"t tell me anything, would like to see Videos, Dynoruns, and if anyone has seen the car running, looks like the car has been sitting for a while with the Hood or custom hood... whats the real deal on this Q.... I would more like to see a procharger SC Q seems more realistic to me....

here is a link of the pic and story done on 1 of several japanese turbo Q...with intercooler... I have several others but they are in Japanese, we are trying to contact the Japanese Company that made it for them...any help with friends in Japan will be appreciated.... http://www.q45racing.bizland.c...Q.jpg

Also, if you read the post, you will see the hp differences, between kits.

The 6 psi kit was about 400 hp with JWT ecu

That turbo kit is making 400 hp... Same as the 6 psi supercharger setup.. I would still rather have a turbo...

Q45 racing JR,

I didn't mean to come off sounding like an A$$... You have clearly researched this, and I appreciate that. I'm with you all the way, if you need any help, I'll do what I can.

400 hp with a t88.. isn't that kind of a weak?

The t88 is massive.. it's the turbo you go with for the 700-1000 hp supras... I thought it was way to laggy on the supra, but maybe not on the Q?

I'll see what I can do.

I'm finally enrolling in Japanese at college.. Maybe in two to three years I can call these people myself, hehe :)

I'm only guessing, based on my lack of knowledge of the japanese language & kanji... i was able to gather those info: T88 turbo, 1 bar, 400PS so i'm guessing on the rest, trying to find a japanese freind to translate this magazine for me.... is 400PS in japan the same as 400HP?

Also on Nico in the Media Forum there's a Video on someone's quick Maxima with Stock Motor, Stock Injectors, and transmission. He was Pushing at 1bar, 478 HP to the WHEELS! With a T3/T4 Turbo. I have a Friend with a 96 Single Turbo Supra With the T88 Turbo with VERY little lag daily driven at low mid 10's He was telling me to Turbo the mothership. So has Everyone else out here in Florida. IF you noticed the 3000RPM is where the Cam lobs hit pretty good and starts to pick up quickly. With the T88 You'll push boost all the way through. So as in turbo lag... i don't think there will be much. As as far as the JUN Chip... I didn't get much info but i know they make one. Search for their Site.

So are there any problems with removing that rear "muffler"/ resonator or whatever it is. Call me a redneck... but I'd like to see the little Honduh boys faces when you open up the Q and it sounds like Godzilla about to eat lunch. :D

LOL....I would also like to see their faces as well when they hear the Q beast at WOT. I don't know about you all, but here in Miami everyone has that little anoying exhaust tip sound that they think makes them go faster.

 LOL yeah we got everyone and the Gma's over here with BIG Spoliers, Vinyl Stickers, Exhaust tips everywhere.. Know what that equals... = RICER!!! Haha.. Umm Actually when we were back at cali, anyone that i've raced.... while racing juss looks so fast when the q is about 4000 RPM... It Screams!!!

But I must admit.. My Honda boys... they either are Door to Door, or within 2 cars lenghts. i've lost 2 times for all the battles in the Q.... 1 was a Modified 99 Prelude with all bolt-ons,Untuned, and Vtec Controller.... beat me by 2 cars. The other was a Heavily Modified 99 Integra LS with T,Intake,Type-R Cams, Headers, ECU and some blah blah blah stuff i can't remember. but it was Vtec.. i lost to 1) Underestimated the LS told me all he had was Intake and Headers.... 2) I had a bad launch When going to 2nd i Shifted early at 6000 Rpm, then realize that he was in front of me so i had to play catch up... Then we raced 3 more times... the 2 racesi've beaten him but by quarter Panel. then one beat him but like 1.5 cars cause me misshifted..

But when I'm already Rollin.... Muhahaha... If you look look at your clock in the Q.... to the upper left corner there's a red triangle... I happen to hit that button a lot :)

I'd love to turbo either of my q's. I don't know much about their electricals and such, but I think an awesome cheap turbo would be the 99-up powerstroke ford diesel turbos with .84 A/R turbines and 1.10 compressors. They flow 615cfm which works out to 570hp. On 5.0 mustangs they hit full boost a bit before 3000rpm, I'd think the Q would be coming on boost by 27-2800 and full by 3500. I believe the internal stock wastegate is set to open at 6psi on these but that could always be increased with a bleed valve. The only thing I'm leery of for the Q is 10.5:1 compression. I wouldn't want to push more than about 8psi even with an intercooler on pump gas. I'd think headers wouldn't be too tough, I'm sure there's someone on the Turbomustangs.com forum that could build a good set.
