I'm with Jesda on this one. The car looks good, only downside is the no rowboat gearbox.

The SHO has ALWAYS been called the "show" internally at Ford.

Take the SHOgun car for example. It wasn't called the S-H-Ogun, it was showgun.

NO! NO FREAKING AWD! Ford's AWD is pointless and just ends up adding lots of weight and complexity. Leave the damn rear wheels alone and just work on making the thing fun to drive. If Honda and Nissan can make fun front-drivers, so can Ford. FWD is fine. This modern on-demand AWD that's really just FWD 90% of the time is a huge waste. Either give me power to all 4 all the time, or pick one end and make the most of it.

The AWD Fusion weighs as much as SIX HUNDRED POUNDS MORE than the FWD version. Unless that's some seriously badass AWD like ATTESA-ETS (and we know it is NOT) that weight increase is not worth it.

A 3200lb 350hp front driver is much more appealing to me than a 3800lb 350hp AWDer.

I agree. Given the choice of FWD or AWD, I'd go with FWD. Personally I'd prefer Ford to do a RWD Fusion SHO and have the boys at SVT or Rousch tweak the suspension to make it a more fun handler, but I don't forsee Ford or Rousch spending development dollars that way.

Do you expect a car targeted at old people and ho hum families to be 100% performance oriented? It's a freaking Ford Taurus! Of course it's gonna be big, of course it's gonna be heavy, and the only thing the SHO adds is some better acceleration and handling thanks to the AWD.

Were you expecting a Taurus GT3 where it's built for time attack?!? Some of you are being WAY to critical about the ultimate car for a person that says "I don't care."

Remember what a Ford Taurus used to be? At least they made progress this generation by not making me queasy when I look at it.

From this:

I also prefer the styling of the Fusion though.

I read these posts with great interest. Maybe I read too quickly.. did anybody here actually get in and drive the car sho?

Taking a step back to look at the lineup of models, the new Taurus definitely fits right in it's own spot.

When the 350Z touched down people hated it too, not to mention the bubbly altima and maximas..

A little perspective helps..

I can forgive you for this post since you're only 16 and not old enough to remember the SHO that is the reason those three letters mean anything at all worth remembering.

That SHO was not targetted at old people and ho hum families. It had a specially developed Yamaha engineered V6 and a manual transmission. It was made for people who wondered where the hell American performance sedans had gone. So OF SMEGGING COURSE people would expect the new SHO to be the same type of car. You've got the issue backward: it's not that we expect a family car to be sportier. It's that we expect a sporty car to be less family oriented.

Also, I still like the car. I just think it fell short of what it should have been and looks cartoonishly huge.

I haven't driven one, but I'd like to. I don't really dislike the car aside from the fact that it had the potential in those 3 letters to be something greater but didn't reach it, and the fact that it is twice as tall as my big luxury sedan.

I actually like the new Taurus (the current gen and the old FiveHundred rebadge) a lot as far as FWD family sedans go. I'd take a new Taurus over a new Camry or Accord any day. I just can't believe how HUGE the bloody thing is. I joke about modern cars being so tall their trunk lids are higher than the roof of my car...but this time it's almost true! I like big cars...but if I'm going to drive something that weighs more than 4000lb I'd prefer it have a V8 and RWD--and not be as tall as an SUV.

As for the interior pic Nala posted, that demonstrates one of my other complaints with the car. Those dash wing-flair things...I hate them. I hated them on the Mustang and I still hate them on the Taurus.

The original SHO is definitely a car I would seek out and buy, especially with a manual in Cone-Bone green. I got to drive one around last year and developed a great deal of affection for it.

The interior is crude and the buttons feel cheap, but everything inside is actually quite durable. The ride is comfortable, handling is reasonable, styling is well-proportioned and clean, and that engine... wow.

If one came my way I'd treasure it. I agree with MOD on a few major points, especially regarding purpose and size, but the new SHO is gorgeous.

I also agree with much of what MOD said but not all. I rented a Taurus badged 500 and was thoroughly unimpressed. Cheapie interior, spongy ride, but roomy. I will reserve judgement on the new SHO's driving experience until I get behind the wheel of one. But I stand by my opinion that that car looks too tall and Ford should have gone smaller. The new model is approaching the size/mass of a Crown Vic/ GranMarquis, of which I have owned several . That's bit too big for my taste in a sporty sedan.

The roman's once raced with horses, might I add no dynamat in those, and not so much power.
does Ford offer a "spikey wheel thingies" option?

stick the ecoboost in a Fusion with awd tuned for actual fun and we'll talk Ford.

Don't know if all of you guys heard about this. But Conan O'Brian has a 1992 SHO that he featured several times on his show. Ford invited him to test out the new SHO which was documented and aired on the Tonight Show.

I love how he calls it the "S-H-O" instead of the show. Maybe ford will finally drop it. They didn't try to correct him while he was there either.

I was hoping he would say "damn, that car has a big a**" instead of trunk.
