I saw an Elise, nice lookin' cars. Honestly though, for $40k I'd buy something else.

If I was going to buy a super-lightweight 2-seater, it'd be a Noble M12 GTO, no contest (the new M400 model)

0-60: 3.5 secTop Speed: 185mphBetter skidpad than a McLaren F1425hp w/2300lb curb weightGetrag 6-speedExceedingly snazzy interior (better than most production cars).

All for about $70,000 or something like that. With a little more work done to it, you'd have something that would run easily with an Enzo and McLaren F1 in any category but top speed.

http://www.noblecars.com I do NOT work for them or anything, I'm just completely obsessed with these things.

Well then, wait for the Exige. That'll pwn everything. In the Best motoring vid I saw, the Exige outran the Gallardo on the track they test drove them on by 6 seconds... in the rain... while the Gallardo was in the dry. Then they ran it against the 360 Modena, 355 Spyder, Diablo, Porsche Carrera Turbo, and a bunch of other cars. And you know what? It took them all by an average of 6 seconds too.

I saw an Elise in action out in Malibu. He wasnt pushing it, as I'd assume he was breaking it in.

just becuase it doesnt have a "lotus" emblem doesn't meen it isn't a good car. I meen look at all these domestic truck and car owners droping in Ls1's. It has a "chevy" emblem on the engine so the car that it has must be crap.

A friend of mine just took delivery of a red Elise. I just saw it recently. It's much sexier in person than in pictures. But it's very very small. smaller than a miata. It's about as pure a sports car as you can get. Not much in the way of frills, but I liked it. I'd still choose a Z over it for street use. But I'm betting its a far better track car than the heavy Z. I'll let you know how it feels when he brings it to the track. I'm hoping he has it broken in enough to take her to Summit Point in a few weeks.

ive been confused on that for a while, isnt the british spec exige = the american spec elise. i maybe wrong but i though the euro elise had a less powerfull engine, and then when the decided to release the elise in the states they used a modified celica engine with 190hp, but back for the euro they made a hard-er core version with the celica engine called the exige, aw im so confused.

but yeah also on top gear, they had one of teh best automovie moments in history: the exige evaded radar lock from a military helicpotor

EDIT: OMG heres some APACHE VS LOTUS vids!!!

mmm noble goodness...

it's as much British with the Ford powerplant as the Lotus is with it's Toyota...

killer suspension on both!

honestly, there's far more cars I'd own from other countries then Japan....not that they don't have some cool stuff, but Europe makes insane amounts of really neat cars...

god knows there's plenty of classic American cars I'd own too...and a handful of new ones as well.

The only problem with the noble is, you have to buy it without an engine.

The elise is a pure driving machine. Its not bogged with weighty amenities the high dollar crowd usually want. Look for this car dominating local and national autocross events in 100% stock form.

Huh? Did you mean to say just because it has a lotus emblem that doesn't mean it's a good car? If that's what you meant... Lotus is world-renowned for building fine suspension systems. The team at Lotus have advised other manufacturers in the past..i.e. the Isuzu impulse RS turbo has a Lotus designed suspension, they even advertise it with a badge on the side of the car. There are many other makes/models out there that have benifitted as well. Lotus isn't in the business of making engines, Rover makes some of the engines in their other models--and from what i've read, they aren't too durable.

And lets not forget the Ford lotus cortina, a revolutionary car. Lotus took a turd and turned it into an icon.

Lotus also did chassie engineering work for the DeTomaso Mangusta and DeLorean. They tuned the ford cortina, Opel Omega and others. They also developed the engine for the chevy corvette ZR1. And this is all just in the 60's.

Heck toyota got all of its multi-valve engine tech from lotus in the 80's when they aquired a 25% share. (funny how that comes back to benifit lotus 20 years later)

Lotus has played a vital and often un-appreciated role in automotive history.

Did I ever mention how much I love rally cars?

This homage to Lotus needs more photos.

The Exige is a hartop TURBO version of the Elise. Stiffer and even more trackable than the Elise.
