Yep. Too bad the consequences extend beyond those at fault.

Because YOU support people who think that is how it should be. YOU vote for these people, YOU give them the power to shape the system then YOU would suggest it is being forced on you. weak

garbage in garbage out.

Pure democracy doesn't work. Show me one example of where it has.
themadscientist wrote:Entitlement programs need to go away and the facilitators such as yourself are the true obstical. If you want to accept the status quo just write a check to the government for yourself, leave me out of it, you don't speak for me.
I'm fine with making it optional if you can prove you don't need it.

I don't need it. I still support it. You can piss off for saying I'm an obstacle, though. I'm in favor of fixing government programs which do not work well. Unlike those on this forum that can only see in black and white, I have the capacity to understand that just because something is poorly implemented or mismanaged, it does not mean it always has to be that way.

I support people like Barr, Paul, Kucinich, Feingold, Wellstone, and Nader. Nice ASSumption, though, TMS.

show me an example where socialism has. To use your own thinking "research it yourself"

"optional", nice of you. How about taking it one step further to "get the hell out of my business government"

You claim to want to fix government programs to fight mismanagement but then cast a vote for a guy who is the antithesis of that.

No government works perfectly. America and other countries which are somewhat socialist have been around for hundreds of years.

Barr is the antithesis? I've said many times I'm not an Obama supporter after finding out more about him and his FISA vote.

I looked you up, you do not support Barry. Thank you for correcting me

I disagree in the strongest terms with the forced savings plan though.

Barr and Paul?

I know "libertarian" these days is a cool buzzword, like saying "My best friend is black." But you seem to misunderstand what American libertarianism is and what policies goals come from the philosophy.

Even though the traditional, bloated federal welfare system had been reformed in the late 1990s, other programs like Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security are unsustainable at their current spending rates. With the latter two programs alone facing estimated total unfunded liabilities topping $100 trillion, the government will eventually face the choice of raising taxes by as much as 50 percent or defaulting on promised benefits, if we do not begin taking action right now.
I have no idea why you support federal entitlement programs while claiming to like guys that ABSOLUTELY DO NOT agree with you on this.

Libertarians oppose entitlement programs. Libertarians are against social security.

You know, and I respect that opinion. Like I said, I agree with your perspective, I see where you are coming from and why you feel that way.

But the fact is that most of the country is not like you and the other smart people on this forum. Most would be penniless in old age if left completely to their own devices, and at that point it's not like they can say "lesson learned, let me go back and fix what I did wrong".

People on this forum think that when I support certain socialistic things, I support the status quo. Not so, I support providing the absolute bare minimum for people who fail to take care of themselves or have a spot of bad luck. They certainly would not have a pleasant life under "my plan", and that would be the incentive for them to bootstrap themselves out of it.

No, I understand. I feel there are larger issues today than entitlement programs, plus I don't agree with most Democrats' perspective on social programs. Especially the current bunch.

No one candidate perfectly represents my political perspective. Barr is the closest overall.

My best friend is black, you insensitive clod.

Privatization of SS will not work. SS is actually very simple to fix. The big issue is Medicare/Medicaid. Also, any forced savings account proves to be too expensive to administer. There are only a few companies, one that I know of for sure, that are out there to help middle income America financially. Those are the companies bound for growth and greatness right now. The big Wall St firms don't take on these portfolios because they haven't figured out a way to do it cost effectively based on their current business models.
