My redtop SR20DET died tonight. God I'm so sad. I'm tearing up as I write this. You can laugh all you want, I'm dead serious. It was fine and dandy on the way to work and on the way home it was smoking like mad, revving ridiculously slow (barely could pull of from lights, standing rev under no load revved slower than it previously revved under load) fire burned through the cat, idling like a seriously high lift cam had been installed. All the facts seem to be pointing to a dead SR. It's my fault I guess. I didn't treat it very well at all. Popped the hood at home to a face full of smoke. I know this post is incoherent but I'm so ****ing down right now. I'll try to get more facts and some video and audio tomorrow but for now I'm going to go cry.

When my popped my intercooler piping off (stupid pos clamps), it ran just like that. I about sht. I couldn't even drive it home, had to stop behind a doctors office and borrowed a screwdriver from a cop who happened to be passing by lol

What where you doing when your car started fugging up? Driving it hard or anything?

Thanks for the advice and sympathies bro. I'm going outside right now to go check everything out. I'll report back in a few minutes.

Actually I was driving it pretty grannylike. A lot softer than I normally do.

It depends. If it turns out it is blown the 240 is getting shelved for the time being. With school coming up I just don't have the money to do anything with it right now... I might save and do an RB25 or LS1 swap but that is all fancy thinking. SR longblocks are pretty cheap so I might have one in a couple months....

check your oil, boost leaks, wires, vacuum lines, etc.

granny like huh? give me numbers...like speed, rpm, gear, boost, etc. lets figure out the problem.

RPM's never exceeded 4000 at any point during my trip there. Boost is set at 7 PSI and that was what was read to me by my boost gauge. Speed was 45-50MPH. Injectors never exceeded 40% of capacity. I'm checking over all the lines and what not right now. I guess it would be important to mention that it was the first time it had be driven in exactly 1 month.

Whenever your not busy I'd really appreciate it if you could. All the lines seem to check out. Oil is fine, if anything overfilled the only line that seems to be iffy connection is from what I want to say is the oil catch can? I really don't know what it's for but I see a lot of SR's do without. It is along the line traced in red and highlighted green.

what exactly is "fishy" with that line?

that line goes into your intake tubing after the maf.. if its melted/cracked/missing and the hole on the intake tube is not plugged it will cause your car to run rich as metered air is escaping.

this can cause bogging and black smoke 2 of the things you stated were happening.

Wouldn't the smoke be coming from the exhaust? There is no smoke from the exhaust. All smoke is coming directly from the engine bay but I will take that into consideration. The line is connected and secure, the clamp just is broken but there is still a seal. I'll buy a hose clamp tomorrow and update. I'll be checking for codes and compression tomorrow morning as well.

Couldn't tell. Problem occurred at night and I walked to work the next day. It hasn't been driven under load since so I couldn't see the source. It smelled to be originated from just below and behind the intake manifold.

None. I just seafoamed my motor and replaced all brake booster lines and clamps. That's one line I'm sure isn't the problem LOL.

the brake booster? How would I check? It is pretty strong. Strong enough to pull seafoam out of the air midfall.

He means how much vaccum is your car pulling at idle.

As far as I know Ryon doesn't have a vacuum/boost gauge.

Ryon, are you off on Sunday?

I do have a boost gauge. At idle it is pulling on average -400 mmHg. On a 1 bar boost gauge it reads as this:

You might have busted the rubber hose for the coolant line that goes behind the block (turbo line). It happened to me and I thought I blew my HG....What did your temp gauge say??

Yea, I'm guessing its a busted line of some sort.

On another note, I ordered my FMIC piping today

Thanks to Tulsa_S-13 the root of the problem might have been found. One of the spark plugs was really dirty and smelt really strong of fuel. It's possibly a bad coil pack. That would explain having no power, lumpiness, and the fire in the exhaust. The 3rd cylinder might be dumping fuel straight into the exhaust... We'll do a more thorough diagnostic soon and update.

Just got in from replacing all of my coilpacks. Problem still persists. One things I noticed was that one of the coilpacks had all of this green powder crap that looks like corrosion on it? I dunno what the problem is at this point... Any help is appreciated.

did you change all of your plugs? Are your connections to the coilpacks all good? you might have bad wires (from corrosion). Not sure but just a thought to try and help a friend. GL man. when you seafoamed the motor did it then sit for that 1 month? If so, maybe you knocked crap loose that was holding things together and just found out bc you just drove it again.

it there anything leaking on to the ground? if not it sounds like a bad injector, dumping in way too much fuel.

No, no fuel leaks and the injectors seem to be fine but I'll be upgrading to 740's soon so if that is the problem then it will be corrected shortly.
