Well coming down to cali for the weekend from arizona. Driving west on 91 FWY About two minutes away from my exit when i spin out and lose control. (Hyroplaned in the rain) i hit the the fastrak cones and am s***ting bricks cuz i just did a 360 on the fwy. car was still fine...

It gets worse

I and stoppped in the middle of the fwy for about two seconds when i see a car managed to stop and next thing i know im hit. two airbags go off. both side airbags on the driver side. i was pretty much on in the back left tail light. Got hit by an 01 civic and his engine got fire.

i was able to drive my car to my location luckily but the damage is pretty decent.

Im wondering if since he hit me when i was stopped if its his fault.

Were you stopped in the middle of the highway? Or off to the side? If you were in the middle... it's kinda your fault...

Anyways that sucks big time!! Glad you're ok though.

Ha well this happened at midnight on Friday I would of been so down to meet up lol hadn't I crashed. And believe me this was not an accident of stupidity. I was going the speed limit which is rare and honeslty I'm kindsa scared to drive in the rain now because it happendeed so randomly if only rhat other dude didn't hit mw

I hate to be a downer, but you were going too fast for conditions. The speed limit is for ideal weather/visibility (yeah I know we all go over anyways). What was the limit btw? I know when I lived in Cali, some spots were 75+.

Consider yourself lucky if you got away without a ticket. It sounds like the civic was also going too fast for conditions, which is probably why the cop said they were at fault for the damage.

Anyways, good luck with the repairs/salvage check. Hopefully everything works out to your advantage.

the speed limit was 65. I Was going with the flow of traffic. I know i should have been going slower but theres no changing it now. Ive learned my lesson about driving in the rain now tho.

It looks like its going to be the other guys fault as well. they said since i was at a complete stop and he hit me the damages he caused are his fault which is basically everything.

I know i f***ed up for spinning out but hadnt i been hit id been hit by him i would have the damages i have.

I'm glad their placing blame on that guy. Have you figured out if there's any frame damage yet ???

Are you borrowing a car to get to and from work now or are you taking leave and staying in Cali for a bit ???

On a plus side, those springs look good still

Gentlemen,

The Altima has no frame. It is of a unibody construction. I believe that what they are referring to when they mention the frame is the floor pan, rocker panel or other structural steel panels that make up the underbody of the car.

What is unibody construction?

Unibody cars still have frames. They are just a part of the body. The link you posted even said that... "Unibody is a type of vehicle body construction in which the frame and body are a single unit."

Yep...

Throck:

Just because the information can be found on Google doesn't mean it can't be asked here/posted here. This becomes another resource for people with the same issues that never thought of asking and it create a good discussion about it.

Throck, on a personal note I have no problems with you. I just wish you were a little more part of the group and not an outcast as it seems you make yourself to be. If you do not have anything to contribute that helps people in a polite helpful way, I would appreciate if you just wouldn't post at all. I have read your replies to numerous topics and you just come off as a very rude person that has no personality.

I'm not taking a shot at you, I'm just explaining how I feel about you from what I have seen on here.

Thanks,

Scott

Scott,

I will admit that when people ask questions that could be easily answered if they used the Search feature of this forum, or if they refuse to look in the Owner’s Manual to learn to operate all the features of their vehicle, my response reflects their lack of initiative.

That is not the case in this thread.

“If you do not have anything to contribute that helps people in a polite helpful way, I would appreciate if you just wouldn't post at all.”

“Polite, helpful way” You must be kidding. I was not aware that all postings had to be pre-approved by Miss Manners prior to posting. Please point out in my post of 6:32 AM 2/10/2010 any words, phrases or combinations thereof that anyone could construe as ‘non-polite or non-helpful.” I will admit that in previous posts, my tone could have been milder, but not this one.

I always attempt to back up my opinion with a link to an article, publication, or a manual. If I am proven to be incorrect, I will admit that I am wrong.

If Mu, or anyone else, believes that the Nissan Altima has body-on-frame construction,, and is not unibody construction, there is nothing I can say or do to change his mind, even if I am ultra polite and ultra helpful.

Thanks,Throck

Oh stop pissing in each others cornflakes, this isn't a contest about whose e-pen15 is bigger.

I suppose the correct question would have been is there significant enough damage to the unibody to make it not worth saving from the view of the insurance company. (If someone wants to save it bad enough, it could be fixed). Hell i've seen unibody cars cut down the middle and welded back together...

Anyways, to the original poster: I feel your pain. I had a similar accident a while back and it sucks. As long as no one was hurt and it gets fixed, then things could be worse. Stay positive.
