Sad day at NICO

Deleting threads is just plain wrong. God forbid, someone has strong conviction or an unpopular opinion. I hate socialism and this forum is a perfect example of why. Yes, some people go overboard with letting their opinion be known.... but they should be dealt with on an individual basis. It is just very dissapointing to see that the powers that be, feel the need to police us like we are children. I guess the good of the FEW now out weights the good of the MANY! Feels like a few over-sensitive individuals trying to protect those that don't need protection. I'd be offended if you came running to my aid. Should we be affraid of someone else's truth, because it doesn't agree with our own. Sorry bunch we have turned into.

While I know it wasn't you... I'm equally sure you had a hand in it. At least stick up for your ideas to retain SOME kind of dignity!:) And I'm not sad or mad, just very dissapointed. I think it's lame, and I think it says a LOT for what you mods THINK we can handle. I'm not sure who you are trying to protect... but it is insulting to say the least. Of course it got out of hand, but deal with the people who made the comments that were above and beyond. There was some genuinely usefull input from different people, and there is NOTHING wrong with differences of opinion. That is how some people LEARN and become ENLIGHTENED. Maybe some of what was said would wake some people up and drop their antiquiated beliefs. Or maybe not, but either way... we should not hide from the truth, we should embrace all aspects of it whether we agree or not. We are human, and it is in our nature to disagree and have conflict.... but I guess that can't exist here.

I just rembered I didnt just hear about it today but last nite...And I didnt hear it by reading the thread either, as someone else was bringing it up.I did agree with them strongly though.

I dont even know why I am bothering to "defend" myself, since there is nothing to defend about.

As for overbearing mods.. , we are the most permissive car site on the internet.

A thread like that, on maxima.org or on FA would have gotten several PPL banned for life immediately.

Here we just deleted a few posts that OTHER members had complained about as offensive---- big deal.:pface

It was the thread, "what can we outhandle" In it's present state it is about 5 pages shorter than it was last night. I won't rehash any of the carnage, but it did get out of hand on numerous occasions. The mods deleted about 4 or 5 pages of the thread that contained the illicit language and subject matter. But it really did have a LOT of interesting and intellectually stimulating conversation, and now it's gone.... too bad. Also, they made their way to the ring and deleted Deesolballs' thread that he graciously started there to drag the conversation out of the 240sx general area. All I wanted to say, was that the people should be dealt with on an individual basis... DON'T erase 1 and a half threads because you don't like the content!!!!

I partially concede that point.

But do you know how much tedious WORK, it takes to go thru such a long thread and pick post by post which ones should stay and which ones not?

None of us get paid for doing this either..

As a matter of fact since many dont send in any membership dues , at least one moderator keeps this site going, by paying the server fees for this large and active site out of his own pocket!

Also:Its too bad, some good posts get lost this way, but please dont blame us, but those that are posting improperly.

No need to defend yourself Fred.... as I am not attacking you or anyone else for that matter. As for the overbearing mods thing... lighten up man, it was a joke for Tino and I pitty you for taking it seriously enough to defend the NICO moderation staff. I was NOT making this a personal thing.. I wanted to vent and explain my position. The fact that you jumped in to defend yourself is your deal, not mine. I'm sorry if I offended you, or if you thought I had directed ANY of it towards you. You take enough heat as it is, far be it from me, to come here and add to it! I think this board is a credit to the hard work and diligence of you mods... but if I'm not allowed to disagree with your actions.... I will gladly take my one man revenue souce elsewhere. We certainly wouldn't want to alienate anyone, now would we?

sorry dude , i did want it deleted myself and said so . but i stand by my opion that something needed to be done with it , some of the stuff that was siad in there wasnt right , and thats coming from me and ive said some messed up stuff . my big problem was it wasnt in the ring , if it was there id wouldnt have minded , it shoudlnt have been deleted maybe , it shouda been moved to the ring maybe that woulda been beatter . im not a mod and i dont talk to them much outside hitman and thats int he threads so i wasnt involved in the deleteion , just distubed that it the whole deal took place outside the ring

I had read that thread and was absolutely floored by it. I don't know if anyone else did as well, but I did report the thread to the moderators and asked that it be deleted. I do believe in our 1st amendment rights and respect the opinions of everyone on this list. Frankly, It's quite a good topic for debate, but to allow it to be posted here in the NICO boards and to allow it to continue would do nothing for the list and bring the integrity of the list down. The contact was blatently discriminatory and not of any sort of jest or even an innocent error. Having a thread like that posted here would reflect badly about the people in this community, and of the Nissan and 240SX enthuiasts abroad. Having been a part of the 240sx community since the times when the first mailing list was only about 100 members strong, I have seen it grow in size and integrity over the past 4-5 years, and I'd hate to take so many leaps back when it has taken us so many steps to get where we are today. I would hope all of us would try to keep this list and others like it respectible and dignified.

I applaud the moderators for taking the steps that they did. I feel that the majority of our memebers have a lot of class and I would hope that noone would think otherwise just because of the few that don't. I am sorry if anyone here disagrees with my opinions, but I felt it was necessary that something be done about that thread.

hah... if you had read it... chances are we wouldn't all be friends... especially if you're one of those prim madonna, tree-hugger, botanique, saps that can't handle a little conflict! It REALLY got ugly and some people went WAY overboard.... and people were rightly offended. But just like every other aspect of our patheticly over-sensitive society.... once people start to complain, those in control get nervous and jump into the 'cover-your-a$$' mode!
