Im planning on doing the VH45DE swap. I've heard the the automatic KA

transmission will bolt up to the vh45. I'm wondering if there is in truth in that ?

Bellhousing-to-block won't match.

What would I need in order to make it work or what transmission would I need

to make it work? I've read that the 300zx transmission will work but what would

it take to get that to bolt into my s14 tunnel ?

The bell housing to transmission bolt pattern might be the same which would allow you to use the Q45 bell housing on the KA transmission... but the KA transmission will be a smaller unit than the Q45/Z32 TT transmission so may not handle the power too well.

You should be able to use a Z32 TT auto transmission with the Q45 bell housing without issues.

The Q45 bellhousing will bolt to the KA auto transmission. The KA auto (RE4R01A) and the VH auto (RE4R03A) are the same size physically, but the VH auto has more clutch packs inside to allow it to hold more torque. The VH auto and the Z32 TT auto are the same transmission, so there would be no benefit in swapping them.

If you install the VH auto, you can use the KA's transmission mount and crossmember. However, it will locate the engine about 1" further forwards than the KA would be, because the bellhousing on the VH is longer {engine to transmission) than the KA bell. My suggestion as a temporary fix, is to use the middle bolt on the transmission crossmember (there are 3 on each side) in the rear hole on the car, this will slide the transmission and engine back about 1" which will locate the engine nicely, then just fab up some motor mounts. You will need to shorten the shift linkage as well, and the bellhousing will interfere will the firewall in one spot on the bottom drivers side. (nothing a bfh can't fix)

Basically. I now have a motor and automatic transmission. I may as well use it.

I will convert to 5sp eventually. But i'll have some fun taking out the auto.

Anyway. Does anyone know what all will need to be changed when it comes to

the motors position in the bay.

These are the real questions you should be asking your selff.

1. do you want the engine sticking out of your hood?

2. do you want a/c ( anwser depends on 1 if at all possible )

3. Do you want to fabricate new alternator and powersteering brackets (again anwser depends on 1)

4. what are you gonna do for headers ( partially depends on 1)

etc

I'm not going to run a hood : ) I don't need AC.I don't want to fab new brackets but i can...I will have headers made or beat the chassis until the stock ones fit.

ok

well the headers dont work unless you massily hack up your chassis, plus unless your not gonna run a steering wheel the driverside is not gonna work at all. Take it from me and fab up some new ones much better in the end, and make power too.
