what size welder? was it 220 volt or 115 volt? how many amps? it doesnt look like a very strong weld (not trying to bash on anyones welding skills) its possible for the spider gears to break the weld off and still drive.

i know one thing, he used flux core! which would work, but its the farmer john wire to use. its mainly for windy conditions where you just need things to stick together. does it still posi? i doubt its blown yet. i had a friend weld a diff with a very underpowered welder and it lasted for about 2 months. and he didnt know how to weld at all..

It was a 220,i havent been welding very long but it definately got decent penetration.and not for nothing but if the spiders broke u would know it.there is some splatter bcuz i couldnt get the welder down in the tiny a** diff, but it looks a lot better in person.

ok well 220 should be more than enough for it. did you happen to preheat the diff? i always helps with really thick metal if you use a torch and heat it for a few minutes first. also did you remove the ring gear? a lot easier to get in it with the diff apart, plus you wont get all the spatter down in the bearings. like i said i dont think it has blown, but i had a friend and his blew on his girlfriend and she said she didnt feel a think. it just made a pop and then started leaking gear oil lol.

Yes i preheated, but i welded it in the case.i covered the ring gear to prevent splatter, and none got on the bearings either.i think we might slide tonight,so we'll see how it goes.lol

you always get spatter down in the bearings when you dont remove the carrier, especially when its flux core. its real easy to do it and doesnt take much time. have fun tonight, stay away from curbs lol

to answer the 15 questions above...I believe the helper spring turns the coil into an almost progressive type spring, providing for a softer ride. all the gr+ pro's use them...and they're NICE :chuckle:
