Ok so I've been pondering for a while about that space underneath the rear quarter window, and how that would be the perfect place to conceal a small to medium sized mid range speaker so that I can get more bass into my car without having to do a sub install. My questions are:

Would it be at all possible with very minor modification?

Has it been done?

What size speaker do you think I could get into that space?

I have a small amp that I can mount in a covert location but don't know if it will work since it's old as hell but it's never been used. I was thinking of maybe getting a 6.5" or maybe if possibly an 8" on each side.

Any help would be great. I've done a search but can't find any information.

IMO that is not an ideal location for a mid range speaker of any worthwhile size. An 8" diameter speaker would be very difficult to fit into that location...6.5" maybe, but I believe both would definitely require some type of custom trim ring to compensate for both the contour of the panel and allow for the depth of the speaker. Have you considered a 6.5" component system with the woofer located in the front door as well as a full range with plenty of power in the rear location? To answer your question- it depends on what you would consider 'minor' modification and, yes, I am sure something similar has been done in the past. I would suggest asking Broadfield since he is the master of all that is sound Just my .02. Good luck.

I have to agree its going to sound like poop in that location a bassy speaker there is just going to rattle the plastic trim and/or exterior of the car. Personally I would stick with nice components in the front doors and get a compact 8"sub then fiberglass a nice small custom enclosure in the corner of the trunk, it won't add a lot of weight or take up a lot of room.

Thanks dude that's basically what I was looking for. If I dynamat the whole area and fill in the excess space I don't see why it would rattle that much or sound like poo.

I just want to get a little more sound out of my car to cover the loudness of my exhaust and trans.

Its been done. There was a guy locally with 6"x9"s mounted into that spot. It sounded really good, and I thought about copying the setup for a while, then I remembered I have 1000 other things that need attention before I can start seriously mucking about with my audio.

6x9's in that location would actually be really good, probably better than a sub. I don't want to advertise that I have non oem stereo components in my car and subs would do that, where as 6x9's or even 6.5" mid ranges would just increase the volume and give me more a true surround sound sound stage.

Nope, completely forgot about it actually, I'll look into it further when I get around to removing the back seat and putting it a cage and interior chassis bar.
