Fresh rebuild on my redtop.... I have a autometer electric oil pressure gauge. and a steel braided line to the sender which is about 2 feet long and a Greddy widemouth oil pan. upon start up hot or cold my car takes at least 45 secomnds to build oil pressure, my gauge reads 0 and makes quite a bit of noise until my gauge starts reading and then the gauge starts reading. But here is the other part my gauge reads 25 for the pressure! Isn't it suppose top be around 60??? Any input will help thank you guys!

You should be seeing around 80 psi at cold startup, and it should only take a few seconds to reach that.

I would guess that either your gauge is not reading properly, or your oil pump clearances are too high, causing low oil pressure.

Oil pump clearance where? also could this just mean my oil pump is toast? Yeah it stays at 0 and makes noise and then its obvious when the motor gets oil cause it gets quiet cause oil pressure gauge builds shoots up to 25-30? i cannot figure this out!?

Did you replace the oil pump when you rebuilt the engine?

like a cheap a$$ i did not replace it just new internals and oem seals... what could go bad in the pump to cause low oil pressure?

sounds like you have some problems...my car has 80psi instantly on start up and about 20-25 at warm idle... fsm states around 11 psi at warm idle and then rise by 10psi per 1000 rpm iirc

hmm im stumped? it does idle at 20-25 psi when it gains oil pressure (when the motor stops its noise). When i jump in and start it, it runs noisey at psi stays at zero then as soon as the noise stops BAM the gauge reads 25 psi and raises a 1psi per 1000 rpm... i have the widemouth greddy oil pan and also i just thought of this but my sender is on my firewall by my wiper motor not on the block i could understand the gauge delay but the motor making its noise is what i dont understand? Have you ever heard of this? Should i target my oil pump as the the problem or do i need to dig in somewhere else?thank you guys for the input!

well if your motor is making noise iits not getting oil where it needs it.sounds like you have a weak oil pump or your motor wasnt assembled right

i understand that it may be a lazy oil pump but it doesnt explain the 0 psi at start up? and once its running and stops the noise it makes its perfect 25 psi at idle!!! I dont get it? any more ideas guys? I cranked my motor over and everything with the valve cover off and im gettin oil through all my journals and cam oilers?

Ah ha im gonna rip out the pick up tube i think this is where my problem is.... i think my mating plate to the oil pump is bent and causing it to reservicate......
