S13 Silvia clone or the real deal?

Alright guys, I'm new... my dad's owned nissans my whole life and now im wanting to get my first. Right now I'm driving a AE86 Trueno Hatch but I'm looking to step it up. I've been looking for a while and I'm not sure if theres already a thread going on this (and if there is can someone just post a link?) but I've come across what seems to be a good deal on what I'm told is a "real" S13 Silvia. Its RDH and has a SR20 red top. From what I can see the only thing it doesn't have is the "Silvia" badge inbetween the tail lights. Now my question is: How do I tell if it is in fact a real Silvia and not just an American clone? And I mean besides just looking at how the body panels line up and what not... is there a difference?

since my buddy owns a real RHD car, the only way i heard, was that the side view mirrors. if the driver side does not have any markings and the passenger side has a moarking saying- objects my seem closer then its real, but then again people can change that too

most times you can tell if its a conversion:

1) e brake should be on the side of the driver, not passenger

2) check on the firewall on the US driver side where the clutch master cylinder would be and check if it has been welded shut. you can kind of tell if something used to be there.

Also, try to look and see where the trunk release and gas door handle is, I've seen so many conversions and people haven't moved the handle over, that's one way

Most of the time they never convert the passenger side oh s*** handle eithier

VIN plate on the firewall will probably be in english if it's a USDM car.

Give me the vin# and I will tell you. If it doesnt work in my fast then it isnt usdm...

The VIN on a real Silvia should be a series of letters and numbers. Example PS13-001233 the first set of numbers are the chassis code, the next 6 are production numbers and that is JDM VIN numbers 101

All USDM VINs are 17 digits unless it's pre-1981. USDM Nissans start with JN1.

I knew there was a difference in vins, just wasnt sure of the specifics.

Also the real deals don't have side marker lights in the back. Some people know this and cover them up with bondo or fiberglass, but most people are just fanboys and don't pay attention.

Ok, thanks guys. When I go take a look at the car again I'll check all those things and let you know what I find. Things I did notice though was like the wipers, they were reverse to what USMD ones would be. The hood release is on the drivers side. The guy is supposed to be faxing me the papers on it, so i should get the VIN# then too...

Go ahead and get the vin. It won't hurt and that's another way to tell if it's a true silvia.

If it was me i would keep the ae86 cause they are hard to find and they are one of my dream cars. Are u sure your ae86 is a trueno?

I agree dont sell the rolla. I sold mine about 2 years ago and theres not a night that i dont cry myself to sleep thinking about it.
