They're both awesome and unique in their own ways, but apparently 350z has a boatload more power, and still retains slightly better fuel economy.

However, being on the East coast personally, a 350z would need to go in a garage or something all Winter long.............. Does anyone happen to know if an RX-8 is driveable in the Winter, or rather does it suffer from the same rear-wheel craziness in the snow?.?.

Any firsthand experience on which provides a more comfortable ride, better interior?

thx!

I don't know why everyone has this idea that the 350z cannot be driven in the snow...Turn the VDC on and get some all season tires or even another set of wheels with snow tires and have an air compressor to swap every time it snows...and always drive smart! I would never get an RX-8 eww

I recommend a beater for sure. Either car sux in the snow being RWD, but if you could seriously compare the 350Z to an RX8 then you better buy that RX8 cuz its got work done.

Side by side 2004 RX8 - 2004 350Z performance- RX8 - - 350Z -197HP 287HP164 trq 274 trq4 door 2 door~24 mpg hwy ~ 26 mpg hwy1.3 L Rotary 3.5 L V63053 lbs. 3217 lbs.Girly Bad A$$

Honestly the RX8 is a nice looking car w/ potential to be great (if you add turbo) but working on the SOB's is a nightmare. To have someone that knows how to work on it, is expensive.

the only reason an RX-8 would be good for the snow is....they don't have much Torque so your wheels wont spin as much. I have a good boddy of mine with an RX8...looks nice, but He does not dare race me...you know why cause I will have his RX8 for lunch

so it's 350Z for me

RX8 consumes more gas than a 350Z with less power...why would you get that car?

What a crock of BS. A sports car generally has 2 doors and are generally if not always coupes.

There are plenty of 2+2 sports cars out there, and yes, the RX8 is one of them. I think your argument falls flat on its face when you think about G35's, Skylines, FTO's, GTO's, Supra's, 200sx's, MR2's.... The list goes on, and they are all 2+2, and they are all true sports cars

Talk about it!!! I guess in R350Zz33 opinion the new GT-R isn't considered an everyday almost super car either cause it has 4 seats...and who cares if Mazda sounds like Mazduh, if the new GT-R was called the GA-Y I would still drive it (a $70,000 car that can lap the nurburgh faster than yo mamma, get out of here who gives a crap what its called). Can't base these kind of things on a name...

Also, if I may add, the RX-8 doesn't really have much potential...the renesis rotary has always had a low potential when it comes to tuning. So far there is only one turbo kit for it (and how many years has it been on the market...either it must be no one gives a crap about the car or it really is hard to tune) and it does nothing really. People are actually putting in 20B engines now cause the renesis just doesn't do it...

Let me repeat for everyone. . . 350Z. Forget about the RX-8. There is more technology in my brakes and wheeels than that whole car. I use the VDC personally and I think it works great, I dont understand everybodies beef with driving in the snow. Just remember you need snow tires in the winter not performance. And if you find a car that does not have the option pass it and get the one that does cause it helps in the rain also.Good luck. And the beater might not be a bad idea but personally I like to drive the Z everywhere thats why I bought it, not to park it.

wow!.... never use that as an opening arguement, mazda guys would tear you to pieces..... not only that, i think a few others have got you for hating on capacity 4 sports cars, you must have clearly forgotten the Skyline, and what about the 4 door EVO's and STi's....

..... Porsche 911 turbo... 4 seats and is considered to be one of the best SPORTS car ever made.... not to mention all the other cars the other guys have mentioned... dont mean to jump on ya but that was a bad example... although i do agree that the rx-8 is not comparable to a z.... maybe a civic si or something of that sense

Coffee can exhaust... Now that is funny, had not read one like that in a while. Maybe on the side of the lil ricer car with gook-wing doors or gull-wing they could write "Expresso" in a sharpie marker on the coffee can exhaust.

I used to own an RX-8. It is a great car. Real seating for 4. The suicide doors were actually very handy. Rotary engine is extremely smooth right up to the 9000 redline.

I get 19 mpg city in my ZR, it is marginally better than the RX-8, but not really by much.

The RX-8 has a better interior. Materials are higher quality than the Z. The stereo in both cars is comparable.

The shifting is better in the RX-8, hard to miss a shift in that car.

The Z has more power and torque, but the 8 has better steering. I found the 8 to be much easier to drive fast. It will take steering inputs in mid-corner more readily than the Z. Where the Z powers through a corner, the 8 tip-toes around a curve.

Both cars can be driven in winter - but I'd have to give the advantage to the 8 because lower torque actually makes for a better drive in winter conditions.

The rotary needs a little extra maintenance (it's designed to burn oil, so it needs about a quart of oil every 3 fillups or so). But it's not something that should scare you from buying the car.

I find the ride of the 8 to be superior.... The suspension is more comfortable. Also, as a daily driver, the Z is noisier (exhaust and tire).

I paid quite a bit less for insurance on the 8. Z's are more expensive to insure.

those rotary engines eat oil like a mofo, uhh the thing is though most sports cars would be making out their wills at 9 grande unlike the rx8. but in conclusion i just scrait up like my zee better.

Get a 350Z. RX8 has far worse gas mileage and you definitely don't want that with gas prices approaching $5 a gallon

I had this same question in mind... I was looking at a Grand Touring RX and an enthusiast 350z, I did research and found that the RX had crappy MPG, just like my 87 Volvo wagon...

Now i have a 350z sitting in front of my house.
