Yo whats up guys,

So I recently put on some new cross/drilled brakes, and they are getting really really rusty...

Im not sure what I should use to clean it... Im guessing some sort of Brake cleaner or something :chuckle: does anyone have any recommendations.... maybe something that would even help prevent future rust???

Thanks

The swept surface?

Nothing at all. Drive them after you wash the car and it'll stay gone longer. You can't put anything on the friction surface.

The rotor hat can be painted with high-heat paint to keep it clean-looking, though.

If you park the car inside does the rust still show as quickly? or as much.

I hate it. On all my cars the damn rust shows up as soon as it rains. Its annoying, and causes a small squeak.

How can you prevent something like that? Looks terrible. I know it really isn't bad tho.

Its not so much the friction part..... as it is the part that makes contact with the wheel.... if you know what I know???

Yep. That's the hat. It can be sanded, cleaned and painted.

I'll bet they're not zinc-coated.

"Cheap" rotors also rust easier. No offense, but I bet you got some Chinese knockoffs.

How old are those rotors? And how many miles do you have on them?

This is what I complain about. Spending good money on awesome rotors, and they rust.

This is my thing.... why would I spend $450 for rotors and pads when I could buy it for $215..... when its just going to look the same and perform the same...

The swept surface should stay clean if you drive the car...

Pull the rotors, clean the rust off with a wire wheel or wire brush, steel-wool the s*** out of them, clean them real well with brake cleaner, and paint them with some high-heat paint (make sure to mask off the swept surface).

How long have you had them? I put those on my car a couple months ago (and now nearly 5k miles) and they still look like new.

$215 for all 4? Yeah, that's gotta be some knockoff junk.

I get drilled / slotted rotors WAY below wholesale, but there's no way you're getting all four for $215 unless they're just absolute junk. :(

Hell, my price for new rotors (non-drilled) for an Altima Coupe is $200 shipped.

Hmm, I guess I'll have to see how mine hold up. Though, I get to garage park at night, so that probably helps a bit during the winter. :gotme

Yeah thats pretty close Mine was on sale for $215 regular $240.... But my question is what makes it junk??? Its still the same style design???
Is it the pads that are junk or the rotors???

And what would make it higher quality?
