I need some help from all my brothas out there. I'm selling the Q and looking to buy a new rocket saloon. The Joneses are leaving me in the dust and some of my co-workers point at my Q and laught at me for driving a decade-old car. Nowadays people don't seem to take you seriously unless you're driving a high-dollar car so unfortunately, I gotta ditch my Q as much as I love it.

To compliment the wife's EVO, a new RS6 would be nice. It'll be my daily driver so the added safety of AWD would be nice come winter time. The con is, it doesn't come with a manual transmission, paddle shifting is nice but I prefer a real clutch.

On the other hand, the E55 is one amazing machine but it's RWD and the price is alot steeper.

Which one do you guys prefer?

As much as I agree with Fred, I realize AWD is something you'd like/need.....

So, be the first to SC an FX45, and this is all anyone would ever see :D

I do LIKE the RS6, but I've heard you should be married to an Audi Mech.

Is the E55 the supercharged, Ferrari killing MBenz monster? If you're talking about the same E55 that I'm thinking about, and you have the funds to afford it... then you'd be almost stupid to NOT pick it up. =)

That car is pretty much at the top of it's class right now, and will be until the V10 M5 comes out. Mmmmmm, 10-cylinders of Formula One derived goodness.

Actually, it'll probably be making healthy amounts of useable power. ;)

Staying among (kinda) affordable cars:

If you cant be w/o AWD the AWD G35 is coming in a few months.

The M45 looks like a decent car but AWD is a big plus. I'm not really partial to the looks either.

The G35 AWD looks interesting but I need something with 400+ hp. The RS6 is a few small mods away from 500hp.

FX45 is just awesome if I opt for the Audi over the Benz, I'll pocket the change and get an FX45, dunno yet at this point.

The Porsche Cayenne has not gotten good ratings in some magazines for its day to day drivability.

Fred, What are the specs on a M45 with Supercharger? I think that, that would be a pretty good setup. Rare yet not exotic.

With either of those cars you will have to be intimate with a mechanic for that brand.

Why not wait another year and get the Infiniti GTR? AWD and it will perform reliably better than either of your German choices.

Who cares if your friends are laughing at the money you are saving driving the "old" Q45? Sounds a little insecure, to me. I have little trouble passing 740i, 745i, 540i, S430, S500, A8, you name it in my "old" Q45.

I concur with Brian.

On the way back from Scottsdale Infiniti last night, I got a couple unique opportunities:

A tricked-out MB 300E (har-har) got his arse handed to him in a gift box by the mighty Q (three times this bling-ified dork tried my patience, three times he got a facefull of the a$$-end of the IPQ beast).

An Audi TT from an 80mph punch (we both needed to hit the same offramp, he was in the far right lane and thought he'd punch it and swoop in front). I held him off until it was either brake or centerpunch the median, he braked and proceeded to mad-dog me on I-17... Each time getting more pissed that he couldn't pass.

The great part about the Q being so quiet? You can hear the other guy winding it out, trying to squeeze those last few mph out of an ill-eqipped engine.

Im not sure how much those e55's run but if you could afford it get a R34 GTR from motorex, Awd, easily capable of 400+ Hp. and absolutly no one would laugh at a GTR

Yeah, but it's not as easy to bone fine females in the back of a GTR. The E55 on the other hand...

sixx made a relevant point:

If you wanna spend 80k (price of a E55/RS6) Pick up an R34 via MotoRex.

That'd be cooler than any of your buddies cars.

Still, I like my much cheaper Infinti alternatives.

Fred...:)

PS: Bud , I dont know those specs, but I think the s/c makes a safe 440hp on the VK45de.

Does the E come with a stick? It's Mercedes, so I sorta doubt it... How about a new Q or a 6speed G? The MotoRex idea is cool, except insurance would be a fat hoe, even though you are married. I'm partial to the RS6 cause I'm an Audi/VW fan anyway, but its really up to you (ask your wife, that's always a good idea too).

Ask the wife? I cannot imagine what horror could come from this. When asked what kind of car she prefers, if she answers with "a blue one" then I'd say we're in trouble...

Dude, she drives an EVO, she can't be that bad. Look at his first post, "to compliment the wife's EVO."

Yeah, I read the entire thread, and by the way, who picked the EVO? Since there is no mention of who chose it, I have to assume the guy did, even if was for the lady. Maybe she's a cool car chick, but without all the facts of the case, would you risk it? End up with a Dodge Stratus or something....

Those cars are so expensive, why are you deciding that you need to sell your 3-4k Q45 for a 80k super sports sedan... Much better things to do with your money than impress your coworkers IMO...

I'd say for half of that a S4 would be killer or for a little more than half, a lightly used M5.

Thanks for the input fellas. There's many factors to my narrowing it down to these two cars.

1- Besides being VP of a small record label, I'm a consultant for hazardous waste materials removal and I end up driving around lots of clients and potential clients. First impressions have a huge impact. 2- The Q's seen better days. It's time for a new lady to take her place and I'd like to go with a high-performance sedan. 3- Absolutely no two door coupes. I idolize the Skyline but I need something spacious and with four doors.4- The best compromise between practicality and performance is a four door sports sedan so that rules out SUV's.5- It's gotta be V8 (The RS6 V8 twin turbo is a BIG plus) and I'd strongly prefer AWD. 6- Positively, absolutely have to have manual transmission even if it's paddle-shifting.

I'll sit and wait on that G35 AWD first though, looks real promising for a good price.

screw them, I say you get a vintage 63 convertible Lincoln Continental, nothing new can match the charm of the car Kennedy was assassinated in.

well, ok, it's not gonna be the best daily driver in the world, but man it'd look good with a fuzzy purple hat:)

would you really expect anything more?

If it were my choice, I'd probably not want either and opt for the BMW M5 myself, though the Audi might be a better car overall in most weather conditions, and in Boston the snow is probably pretty damn heavy. If I were to get the one of the two, I think I'd wanna wait a little longer to see if they have any major problems arise from them though, even though they'd likely have a good warranty offered on them. A G35 awd sedan would be really cool even though I don't much care for the styling though.

I'd so drool all over a coupe version however.
