Since we're talking about oil...

I've heard some things that I don't know if they are true. No flaming, just inform please.

I have heard that synthetic oil is not necessary or recommended in an SR (S14 blacktop) in Central Florida.

I also heard that you should put oil IN the filter, not just around it to make sure the turbo doesn't have a problem.

Any truth to any of this stuff?

1) not true. a hot weather environment will make full use of a syns greater ability to withstand oxidation.Maybe whoever said it ,was only thinking of syns better start up, which will not be utulized in FL?But the robustness of it, over dino oils, is very valuable, especially in a FL summer in a Turbo2)True, not just for turboes, all cars would benefit ,as you reduce the shock of initial oil flow on the dry filter, thats good for the filter and may prevent it from failing at start-up.quite a few do actually and folks dont know it ,while the filters put cardboard into the engine for 3000 miles

well what if you have the greddy filter relocation kit, my friend has it and the filter is upside down, how are you supposed to fill it up and then throw it on? unless you fill it up with like smoke away or motor honey its going to spill all over the fender or intake manifold

Get it as wet as you can inside, to reduce the shock of first start so its not a dry start

Thanks for dropping that knowledge on me. I'll switch to synthetic.

k, so you think if we pour a lil bit of oil into the filter and then stir it around thatd be enough because its going to spill out when we flip it over and start screwing it on.
