Roof rail crisis lol

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Good morning, I would like to know if I could buy the offical alluminum roof rails and where because I don't seem to find it at any site. Plus, the dealer said they could install them for 400$, so its possible after all?

I think this has been covered in the forum before.

They are after all, a factory installed, not a dealer installed, option. It's probably possible to do it, but I'd think it would be kind of risky and would likely cost more than $400. If you're willing to spend the money and REALLY trust the work of your dealership, go ahead and have them do it.

My EX already has the roof rails, but if it didn't I wouldn't do this. I would think that getting them installed post-factory would just open up a bunch of potential issues and future problems with the roof.

Just my $0.02.

Thank you for the explaination. Its really sad that installing the Roof rails is such a drag while in other brands its a piece of cake. The dealer is from the main factory and told me that it would be possible but all I need now is to purchase the rails?

Of course it can be done. You can install a toilet on your roof if you really want to.
The big concern would be, is the dealer going to get it right? They are going to be drilling holes through your roof. Are they going to touch up the paint where the holes are so you don't get rust later on? Or are they going to blob some silicone on there. WIll it be water tight 3 years from now?

The dealer should be able to get the parts.

Do you need the function of roof racks? Or just like the look?

I personally like my EX to look a little more "car" than SUV. So I don't have the roof racks. But, that is all just personal taste.
