hey guys, i think i developed some input for this thread yesterday.. i dont want to clog this thread so heres a link to the one i made

zerothread?id=131732

seems like i spun a rod bearing as well.. and it most likely is gonna be the #3 rod bearing. lol

chalk one up for research

Allow me to quote...uh...myself. Hehe.

Well, I weighed the stockers and the JE's (8.5:1)...remoived all the rings, weighed them with and without the wrist pins.

Stock: 1lb, 0.8oz with wrist pin...13.1oz, piston only.

JE: 1lb, 0.8oz with wrist pin...13.1oz, piston only.

Exactly the same.

Nevermind that theory.

Same thing I was thinking. I posted about it in this thread. Thanks for doing the weighing!

First, I have very limited engine experience! I am, however, very mechanicly inclinded! I am inclinded to comment that I believe all evidence presented points at rod failure!

There are a few things that I don't understand though.

1. I don't see how 1 rod being bent or broken would cause that much damage to the rest of the motor when it is obvious niether of the bearings at the crank or the wrist pin siezed. It seems to me that, since all 4 rods move indepently do to bearings, that one failure would not effect the others(except for flying parts!)

2. More than 1 rod was bent or broken!! The odds are against the fact that more than 1 rod would fail at the same time and not be caused by the others. What I mean by that is, if there was no siezing, I don't see how 1 rod failure would have caused the others!! Flying parts could, but most of the damage looks like stress damage.

3. Those pistons that were angled in the cylinder confuse me!! I'm curious what would cause that!

Thats my 2 cents for now

I was just reading back through this thread and thought of a possible scenerio!

FIZ!! Did the motor lock-up or pop, move a few hundred revs and then come apart??

If it was the latter, here is my theory!!(theorys are my strong point! )

1. Boosted to 20psi2. broke rod # 13. motor revolves a few hundred revs with rod grinding away!4. rod # 1 jams against something else causing the motor to sieze(but not causing any bearings to sieze!!) Fiz says this rod is bent and locked in the motor still!5. The siezed rod-crank causes the other rods to break somehow!

The firing order in the KA is 1342, 2 being last, that "could" have somthing to do with rod-piston set # 2 having the least amount of damaged(although I wouldn't know what!)

FIZ, is there any crank damage? Is there any other drive line damage that would indicate the motor siezed? That part is not for sure though as the clutch would absorb some shock from the motor siezing!
