Rob,I was going to send you my Q45 ECU for the multi-program ECU upgrade. If I where to overnight the ECU to you how long would I have to wait for it ? Lets say I send it out to you on Thursday would you have it for me by Tuesday ? I need to plan this ahead as I like crusing in the Q over the weekends, as my Maxima is still on Blizzaks and OEM suspension that I use for winter, and JIC is slacking with the rebuild on my rear shocks that I send out almost 3 weeks ago. I am hopping to have my Volks and JICs on this week but since JIC is so slooow I am not getting my hopes up just yet.

I'm just curious if you've got a separate board installed to switch between memory addresses on the new chip? Or is it just wired to the address pins? Any problems with switching while the car is running or any interference problems? Anyone got a picture of the board? Thanks.

1. ECUs with two or three programs have a toggle2. ECUs with four or more had a rotary switch at first, now there's a rotary/pushbutton with a little numbered window.

If you have the old rotary switch and want to upgrade you'll have to send me your ECU. Sorry about the change but I found a cheap source for the nicer switches.
How much/how long to change from the rotary to the nicer push button with display? Would a fairly wiring savy guy be able to do this himself? (haven't looked at any of the wires yet)

Doesn't every member keep a spare ecu/tcu/fpcu and every other electronic module in the Q by now so inexpensive from yards and ebay.

IF YOU HAVE A SPARE ON HAND, IT PROBABLY WON"T FAIL is the engineers mantra.

And by "in the Q" he doesn't mean "installed in the Q"... he means literaly "in the trunk" Anyone who has seen Dennis' trunk knows what I'm talking about.

I only keep ecu, tcu, and FPCU in trunk along with every fuse and every type of light bulb AND A VOM and tools...........never can tell when you have to whip into a gas station/muffler shop [for lift] to fix something.

Never happened in 16 years. Because I examine all bulbs and replace when the filaments look funky/start to discolor.

Robert you should offer JWT your modifications [as long as you can still sell to our members*] a few bucks extra might come in handy.

If you're handy with a soldering iron it isn't a big job, but they are small wires. Also I built each one by hand so the wire colors aren't always consistent.

The original ECU uses a 32k ROM in 28 pin DIP package. I had a PCB made that uses a 128 to 256k PLCC flash rom in its place. The switch connects to the high address lines - there are pullup resistors on the board.

I always tell people not to switch it while the engine is running, or at least only at idle. You can do it but the engine will run lean for a few milliseconds while the ECU starts the new program.

I doubt they're interested. I've met Clark before and he is a very busy guy just with new Nissan products. Besides, I suspect he already knows what I've found and just isn't interested in doing much further development.

1-2 degrees advance is hard to feel..........most humans cannot feel 10 even 20 HP as 0.1-0.2 of a second is hard to count mentally especially in 15 seconds. But that 0.1 is 12-14 feet at the end of quarter.

Dennis....sometimes I think you are from the planet Volcan or something of the like. You are 99% logical and ever once in a while a human flaw seems to show up every now and then, but not often. just having a good time with ya.
