:(

I remember watching him win Indy back in '05 when everyone was ga-ga over Danica Patrick. I was really looking forward to see what he could do in F1.

He went doing what he loved, everyone should be so fortunate.

I think that's the most horrific crash I've ever seen.

It's easily the worst one I've seen and I've been watching Indy Car since names like Foyt, Mears and Sneva were driving.

I saw a photo on some site when I was reading about the crash and it gave me chills. I found an HD video that was posted on YouTube here, absolute carnage. Ironically the clip starts with in-car video from Wheldon, I'm glad they switched out and went to the whole field as everything started to go to hell.

Just got back from LSPR and found out about this. Really sad to here, and its a cold reminder. I have read a few interviews he did, and he seemed to know his stuff, which is sort of rare for a driver, most of us just do it, we dont know how.

RIP. Racing is that dangerous of a sport. Watch yourself out there Ian.

There are some real a-holes leaving really messed up comments on youtube. Thats so disrespectful.

Not surprised about that... the internet makes (stupid) people brave. :tisk:

I got the news about this basically as it happened. We were out teaching a driving school yesterday when a friend of mine informed me of the crash, as someone he knew was also involved in it. Its another sad reminder that what it is we do as racers can be dangerous... even with the most advanced safety features in play. RIP, Dan.
