Thought about going out for some Sunday Funday shenanigans with some friends but chose to stay home and watch the news.

A few things I observed:

1. The rioters all drove more expensive cars than me. I watched as late model Muranos, Chargers, Altimas, Camrys/Avalons, Cadillacs, and various CUVs and SUVs pulled in front of storefronts. Guys in masks got out, ran in, and returned to their cars with arms full of shoes/rims/clothes/beer/cigarettes/whatever.

2. They wore much nicer shoes -- brand name, top dollar Nikes and such. My Kirkland Signature sneakers were $17.

3. It wasn't just young angry men. There were women and even CHILDREN. Parents took their kids to K-Mart to help gather and steal merchandise. Women broke into beauty supply stores and took makeup and weaves.

4. I live 25 miles from these animals but friends of mine are up north, close to the violence.

5. My city is, once again, a national embarrassment.

International embarrassment*

You made the BBC.

It's understandable these people are mad at the government, but how is robbing other innocent civilians the answer?

Here are the videos uploaded to youtube in the last day.

WTF is even happening here?

Did something spark this or did some people get together and decide to just go f*** s*** up?

There was a struggle between a cop and some kid. Kid got shot.

A candlelight vigil turned into a mob of stupidity.

Those riots clearly were awful, but on the plus side, Brittany Noble is cute. :naughty:

She's dreamy. It's weird to see so many PYTs at local news channels. Growing up, everyone on the air looked like Walter Cronkite's big toe. It stayed that way up until 5-6 years ago.

Why aren't you out there getting new Khakis and socks from Nordstrom?

*really though, thats pretty absurd. Who has the need to break things at a McDonald's? Of do something as stupid as set fire to a gas station!?

IMHO, riots and the people that participate in them are the finest example you can give of pure ignorance.

National Guard should be brought in and city should be curfewed.

This is not how problems are solved.

I think we're getting to that point.

Tonight they shut down the St Louis Galleria, a popular suburban mall in west county, because of thefts, fights, and an online attempt at organizing people to show up and riot. The Galleria is next door to a few of the wealthiest and most peaceful zip codes in the country. That's only 8 miles from my mom's house and 11 miles from me.

There was also looting in south city a couple hours ago. Three dozen people with t-shirts wrapped around their faces ransacked a shoe store... you know... for justice.

Time to roll the tanks.

FBI is investigating the shooting now. Unfortunately this sends exactly the wrong signal because this is one of the things the "people" wanted.

People need to wake up and realize you can have very effective protests without rioting and looting. Also, if any of the stories I've been reading about this shooting are true, the people have every right to be irate. The police need accountability and they need it immediately.

Be careful out there.. seriously. Looks like it's getting worse.

I hate riots. I've always felt that they're conducted by people looking for an excuse to do stupid s***, most of which don't even know why they're doing it in the first place.

I live out in the sticks for a reason. We don't even call the cops out here, we just feed you to the pigs.

Well I will definitely NOT be stopping in St Louis on my trip this week. Time to take the southern route I guess.

I loved St. Louis last time I was there. I was honestly looking forward to stopping and spending the night.

You still can... well, if you don't mind your vehicle being empty and sitting on cinder blocks when you awake. :)

"Gee, I think I'll take a giant white truck, loaded with everything I own, into the middle of a riot."

Seems Legit.

Our county executive asked the FBI to step in hours before looting began while the protests were still peaceful, but rioters are going to think they brought about change. :tisk:

The rules are the same even when the town isn't burning to the ground -- don't go east, dont go north, stay directly west. South of south city is fine too. That said, I'd steer clear until the circus is over. The Al Sharpton sh*tshow is in town.

As of this morning, that part of St Louis was off limits to everyone including media. The protestors moved on to the Clayton business district.

You know, I think it's my fault.

Last time I had to go to St. Louis it was over 100 degrees and Jesda had to run out of town for a car with short notice. I had a plan to come to St. Louis and the riots start. I don't think the universe wants Jesda and I in St. Louis at the same time. Our proximity, or even my imminent arrival, causes doom.

Looks like I'll have to hunt you down in Oregon.

I have yet to drive an NC so I'm looking forward.

Whats with all the racism in the comments? I keep reading "stop raiding your own hood, go to a white neighborhood instead" and I'm still trying to figure out how "whitey" caused the problem? It's cops that are the issue, not race. f*** ignorant ***holes everywhere...

blame al sharpton, jesse jackson, and tyler perry. if it weren't for those three degenerates, racism, for the most part, would decrease and not be the underlying issue of all the country's problems.

More looting last night, but this time the people formed barriers in front of locally owned stores.

So, that's encouraging I guess. The interstate through that area is now closed at night.
