I did some research on here about putting bigger rims on the J and I have a couple questions. One is why I would need to disable the hicas (my car is a t) and how. Im also wondering if I put 18's on it, will it still be possible to lower the car any. Thanks in advance for any input

I don't have hicas, but I would assume that there could be some clearance/rubbing issues with oversized wheels and/or tires. And yes you can lower your car if you were to install 18" wheels. I currently have 18's on my car and I managed to lower it roughly and inch all the way around. Hope this helps

Thanks a lot jdurtty. How did you drop your car? I've read on here about five different ways to do it

Isn't it counter productive to do what you want to do? Larger wheels would raise the car, and then you want to lower it an inch. You are going to have clearance problems methinks.

@victor I want to get bigger rims on the car for the look of the wheels, not for the purpose of raising the car. I like the cars height as it sits and I just don't think that it would look better if its raised. So im calling it balancing, not counter productive. I was with you on the clearance but j has his like that so I'm guessing there is just enough to get by

About a dozen posts down there is a picture of where I cut the spring. I did this both on the front and rear and after I drove the car and everything settled in it sits a little lower that what the pictures show. I'll post some pictures for you when I find my camera

The HICAS system turns the rear wheels against the front ones based on speed and corner input. That's why the car feels like it corners on rails. When you have rims above 16 inches, you cause both rub and resistance which easily damages the HICAS unit. HICAS units are PITA in terms of DIY effort and expensive in terms of parts to replace. If you want to upsize your rims, purchase a HICAS delete kit which completely disables your HICAS and go crazy.

Thanks driver
The person I was supposed to purchase the rims off of fell through so I don't have to worry about that for right now. But if I do get different rims on it im sure I will just keep it at 16's so I can still have fun on the on ramp that's just about a complete circle :D I truely love hicas and getting 16's means I can maybe drop the car that much more compaired to the 18 inch ones. Thanks for all your help guys, I learned some valuable things from you :bigthumb:
