Ok peeps. Question of the day.... How big of a rim do you need to fit the popular Z brake swap? Will 17's work? It will be going on a 89 hatch. Im not looking for the biggest thing to stuff under the wheel wells but the stockers just arnt cutting it. I would like to go with a 17x7....... Your thoughts........

its more about the spoke design, i mean the stock 15" 7 spokes will clear the 26mm calipers. There is no way to tell what wheels will clear unless you try, or know someone that has tried. Oh, and 17X7 is weak, get them wider.

edit: and search too, this is a sticky in the wheel subforum:zerothread/265282

Lots of good info there.

anything under 22" might scrub the caliper oh and make sure its higher than 55 offset.

doesnt matter on wheel size... go with a lower than stock offset.. I did't know till I test fitted the calipers that I needed a 10mm spacer. My next set of rims will be a way lower offest.

thanks so far for the info gents. Since my 17x7 is considerd weak by some of the nico population what is the biggest that will go in the front without rubbing the hell out of every thing. Also is there a "rule of thumb" for offset? This is my first 240 and i just want to do it right. Thanks again for the info.

to give an example how 17x7's look on a +40 offset running 215/45/17

now those didnt clear the z32/r32 brakes in the front..

so i ended up buying spacers.. 10mm frt , 25mm rear

hope that helps... like i said my next set of rims will have a WAY lower offset...
