im gonna be starting my RHD conversion (no, not on my 240, but a 97 subaru impreza coup, i picked up a full v. 4 STI front cut with all the suspension, interior, breaks, full drive train ect...)

so anyone who's done something like this before have any tips for me? im thinking of just replacing the firewall since i really dont want to attempt to cut the car in half and put it back together again....

i know its gonna be a long and tedious project, and ive heard i have to cross brace the chassis so i dont shatter the front window when i remove the firewall. is this true? ive been told its better to use a 110mig than the larger migs (i dont have a 110, only the larger 220 in the auto shop.)

so ya...

You are better off removing the windshield entirly, it will make your life much easier. As for bracing the chassis, its a very good idea any time you remove something structural.

i figured we'd have to remove the windshield, as far as bracing how much do you think is needed? ive looked here on the forum for pix of people doing it, but havnt found anything. im not a body guy, and there's a huge number of spot welds on the fire wall, anyone have an idea of the necessary ones to cut to remove the firewall without me randomly removing spotwelds that aren't necessary to remove?

i dont feel comfortable actually cutting my car in half so replacing the firewall seems to be the best choice for me (even though its gonna take a bit longer). it will also give me an excuse to re-paint the car to a color i like instead of the ugly green that it is now >.<
