I mean really, if youre at the point where you -hate- it, its time to pack up and leave. Our Canadian friends up north will welcome you. Enjoy your Kraft Dinner!
Ahh Jesda, but the little ***hats don't know what its like to do what you've done.

They also don't know what it takes to be a naturalized citizen, and probably have no understanding of the freedoms they have here. Take those freedoms away and they'll be crying and whimpering like the spoiled little *****es they are.

edit: Yes, I said it. They're SPOILED.

For me, it was 1983 or so and I do not have it hanging in my room, but the sentiment is the same.

My particular peeve is with the people who are old enough, but do not exercise their right, to vote. In my presence, I disallow anyone to discuss politics and disagreements with what the government does, if they have so chosen to abandon their right to vote.

Voting is a "freedom" that many "citizens" born here do not seem to appreciate at all!

Agreed wholeheartedly! And if they dont like the candidates, they can do as I did and run for a position. There's never an excuse to not vote.

That said, I am against voter registration drives. I worry about how uninformed and unconcerned a voter is if they didnt even bother to register on their own.

How educated are the people that register just to get the guy at the supermarket off their back.

i will never vote. Not becuase i don't want to. But becuase i will never understand politics and why only 2 people get the majority of the vote.

What if everyone voted for some other guy that wasn't the 2. Would the repersenitive still vote for the 2? Questions like that bother me.

True, but the fact that it didn't utterly fall apart says something, no other country has become a SUPERPOWER or even succeeded in staying together for an appreciable period of time that has tried democracy, and there are more than a few. It just doesn't work in countries with an established pattern of monarchy or dictatorship, and I think that the fact we remain the ONLY superpower says something about the results.

If you dislike every single candidate, you could always write yourself or someone else in. I've done that for some races where I hate them all.

Yup, often Bart Simpson gets more votes than some of the real candidates. You can write in anyone you want, including yourself.

The freedom of speech (well, semi-freedom of speech) lets us say whatever we want. If I want to call the president a dumbass, I can. You can call me a dumbass, go right ahead!

Thats the beauty of our country, if you don't like something, you're free to express that. You don't even need a reason.

Take me for example, I strongly disagree with the way our government is run. Everyone knows that. (I have plenty of reasons). I can say it without being punished. If I were in russia back in the day, I'd be arrested, and probably be killed.

Do the vast majority of people that say America sucks have a reason? No. do they actually care that much? No. They just want to live their lives of being uninformed and consuming.

I totally understand and respect your position - if you do not feel qualified to vote for a particular candidate or few, you can choose not to vote!

Note that I did not say that people who do not vote are wrong ... merely that they are then not allowed, in my presence anyway, to dis-cuss the government actions if they did not!

I agree.

As for people not voting becuase they don't like the 'two party system', vote for a third party. So hopefully in the next election that party will be able to receive more funding and recognition, becuase it's always nice to have more options.

GREAT post by pills.

The beautiful thing about America is you are free to express your opinion, whether it be informed or just retarded, and you have NO fear of being punished for it.

I like to look at it this way: Our country isn't perfect, we have our flaws, we screw things up (sometimes more often than not) but I think we do a lot of GOOD for other countries and I honestly believe we want only the best for other peoples/nations.

We are truly blessed to live in such a great nation.

"Love it or leave it" (with a third option being "help improve it") has never rung truer.

DriftMachine, Syed (szhosain) and Jesda are perfect examples of what is so awesome about America.

well you could...if you took the position that the govt has changed radically from what was set up by our founding fathers. but along came some folks who selectively quoted a private letter from thomas jefferson to the danbury baptists. they like to quote just the begining. if they were to read the whole sentence even it would be enough context to refute their interpretation of the "wall of separation". if you were to take that position you could view america as a country that has gradually declined in greatness and increased its power simultaneously! all that is really quite similar to the old roman empire with the major difference being the path chosen. while the romans drifted from their rupublican(sys of govt, not pol party) roots to a religous monarchy, we have drifted from a christian republic to a secular democracy. our democracy is of course not complete as pure democracy is simply mob rules. funny if we truly achieve democracy it would just be organized anarchy. guess that explains why our mainstream politicians are pushing us further into socialism to prevent the horror of true democracy.

wow, was that a rant or what?

edit btw, love it or leave it!

damnit I said I wasn't gonna post again....but I lied....

or changed my view!

glad to see this hasn't turned into some full on lame political thread. The Bill of Rights is what makes this country the best in the world.

now then, if you'll all excuse me, I'm gonna go make fun of Franz Ferdinand fans some more...

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I don't think that the country has declined in greatness. I was just referring to the usage of a past tense word, when clearly we are still a country so it should be a present tense ie succeeding. And thus still being a country we are still 'experimenting' and trying to get it right. Becuase if they got it 'right' the first time there would be no need to make amendments.

The amendment process is built into the Constitution in recognition of the need for flexibility over time in order to maintain the Constitution as a timeless document. That is to say that amendments are not indicative of the framer's mistake, but of their intution and foresight.

^ Very true.

A very impressive piece of work - Hard to find an "error", and like NY said: Very indicative of some incredible intuition, wisdom and uncanny foresight.

So much so, that it's hard NOT to imagine divine influence (even if you're not so inclined) as a contributing factor.

Yeah that was part of what I was saying, just didn't get to say everything I wanted since I had to rush to class, but they knew they didn't get it right. Well I mean they got as close as they could for their time, but they knew society was going to change as it had in the past. Hopefully I got everythign there because I'm tired and going to bed, it's almost 2am.

"Right On"

pocatello, idaho: "punk rock?!?!?! isn't that the type of music where kids cut each other with razor blades and knives?" new york, ny: "you guys were so awesome tonight. well actually, i'm too drunk to remember your set, but you're my favorite band...hee-hee" "right on", that's the phrase, to the ****ed up stupid things you say, we say: "right on! right on! right on! right on...!" newark, nj: "if you guys think america's so bad, why don't you move to russia?" los angeles, ca: "what do you mean you don't drink? drinking's my entire life. you gotta start drinking!" "right on", that's the phrase, to the ****ed up stupid things you say, we say: "right on! right on! right on! right on...!" pittsburgh, pa: "anti-flag? that doesn't mean anti the american flag, does it...?" right on!!!
