Hi,

Anyone have experience with replacing their stock stereo with an mxtron? There seems to be two that are natively compatible with the 2014-2016 Rogues: http://mxtron.com/products-detail.php?ProId=60 and http://mxtron.com/products-detail.php?ProId=7 . They are made specifically for the rogues so no adapters, just plug and play and looks like its a stock radio.

They look like they've been around for a while but I can't find any reviews on them really.

According to the website, you don't loose the steering wheel function. Would be interested to see if the phone function still works or not.
Unfortunately units by Alpine, Kenwood, etc loose the function of the steering controls :frown:

A couple of things I would like to know so I can dump my Nissan Nav - How to you get downloaded maps so you don't need data? It says it supports a CDMA dongle, any mention of GSM or is it possible to put in a SIM card?

I contacted the manufacturer and they said Rogue with factory NAVs are not compatible with this unit since they use a different harness. THey don't have any units compatible with Rogues with factory NAV

Well that's no good. Thanks for checking. I guess I'm stuck until I want to do a rewire job.

Let me know how it goes! Waiting to pull the trigger! Also, was the 449 US or CAD?

So yeah so far so good.

Wasn't quite so straight forward to install as the youtube video shows, but not far off. Main thing is no instructions specific for Rogue/xtrail, so had to guess at most the cables.

The main harness is easy enough to spot, but you need to connect a few extra cables that come with the kit to get usb and reverse camera to work. Fortunately I figured that out before putting things back together.

Install was simple, I found the dash strip didn't come out so easily as in the video they show, so i popped the edge cover off and popped out the vent from the passenger side:

the rest is like they say on the instructions, pop out aircon display, then start button plastic then undo the screws..

Image

the your left with this hole. don't worry about the little box on the right, thats my subwoofer adapter. I decided to leave it in as i was fiddling with enough and it works well, although there is a sub out on this radio.

Image

One thing that threw me for a couple minutes is the original bracket uses a star bit, fortunately i had one in the house i just popped to get it, but i hate not knowing all tools needed, so thought i would point it out:

Image

Then i installed the GPS (still sticking out as i wanted to be sure of good reception, i may hide it later)

Image

then connected it all up, figured out which wires i needed and tested out the radio:

Dash board radio/mps signal worked:

So I popped everything back together. Very happy with the finish and red lighting when lights are on:

Image

I had some issues yesterday with WiFi tethering, singal kept coming and going and it wouldnt connect for long. I evertually set it to a open wifi point on my cell phone and used a MAC address access list for security and it seems happier. I need to do some more testing and waiting for response from support on that one.

I installed waze, tried Youtube and google maps, all run really well, very smooth:

Also there were no reversing bars, but i found them in vehicle settings option, so just note you need to turn them on. They are DIFFERENT to the Nissan ones, basically, green is yellow and yellow is red now...

Image

Think thats about it for now, will try and post a youtube vid of the action of switching between you tube vids.

Volume buttons work, the only odd thing is the call button just takes you to bluetooth menu, it doesn't actually answer calls. Will be asking support about that too, i tried adjusting them in the steering wheel options, but didn't seem to work.. More feedback coming soon....

That's awsome! Seems like so far so good!

How's the boot up time?
How's the quality of audio?

Keep the feedback coming! Sounds like a very viable replacement as opposed to buying a head unit and all the wiring adapters

Bootup time is 20-30 seconds, so a bit longer. Also its only on when ACC is on, so just be aware of that. Audio quality seems a little better.

Bit of a dodgy quality video flicking through a youtube playlist:

Have fun with it and if you don't mind doing reporting back after a little while of use! Seems like the best bang for the buck so far!

So just noticed a error i made on installation. Was trying to put in a dvd and noticed it didn't go all the way in. I sent a email to support and they replied within a couple hours and told me to remove the screws that say remove before installing... I obviously didn't spot them... so to save anyone else embarrassment...

Image

Now it works just fine... and yeah hadn't tried a dvd in it during my first 2 months... guess its the age we live in ...

Maybe they should add that to their installation video... anywho...

Good to know if ever I decide to go this route. Instead I decided to add an external amp (nvx) that has a very small footprint as well as swapped in new door speakers that I had laying around... what a difference! Lol

Does waze/google maps work well without a wifi hotspot?

I use my cell hope as wifi hotspot, so dont really know. My wife uses the google maps when im not in the car and shes says it works well, but you need to update it at least once every month otherwise it "expires"

There are 2 radios:
You bought the 8" screen that plays cds/dvds. Why did you choose that one over the 10" screen without the cd/dvd player?

I like the bigger screen. They both have navagation. The 10" has something called android screen mirroring.

The reason I went for it is I prefer the buttons to be available as when driving or something its easier to not worry about touching all controls, just reach for the dial and punch buttons :) just my own preference, each to their own.

The 8 inch also does mirroring..

hey frijolito does all the steering wheel controls work and also how is the blue tooth does it just use the existing? Im thinking of getting 1 as well. I just want to make sure that everything works well before I purchase. Do you mind doing a full video overview of the radio if you have time. I know you just had a newborn congrats on that by the way. Thanks again.

Just joining the party for this, but I have done a headunit upgrade on my parents 6th Gen Accord, but within a few months I will be going to college and I will be taking the Rogue with me to college, and I cannot afford the OEM Navi to crash on me when I need it and I don't have unlimited data plan. So would this headunit work the SL trim?
