This concept was just released on the Detroit Auto Show, and will give a glimpse into what the next gen Murano and Rogue will look like. The big message that I see here is that the redesigned Rogue and Murano will both be available with hybrid-electric powertrain options:

http://ca.autoblog.com/2013/01/15/nissa ... roit-2013/

I'm sure the production models will have less radical design elements, but overall its probably a good indicator. The design doesn't really get me that excited, I'm more a fan of the traditional SUV look with larger windows and better visibility, like VW's crossover concept just revealed, and specifically designed for the NA market:

http://ca.autoblog.com/2013/01/14/volks ... roit-2013/

The redesigned Rogue should be out next year as a 2014 model

I'm not that excited either by that design or the little specifications I read from Nissan, but in the other hand I loved the VW CrossBlue design, the three-row seating, and the 4 Cylinder 2.0-litre Turbo diesel-hybrid power engine ;)

Well it's only a concept for now, doesn't mean it will actually go into production. Hopefully it doesn't as that is one ugly POS.

It's like these designers just got done playing Halo or something...

I think the Resonance Concept may be the new Murano. I'm sure it will be toned down a bunch but I like it!

Does anyone have an archive link to the concept that became the current model Rogue? it'd be interesting to compare the vision to the production reality. Personally I think the current production Morano is too wide for its length to height ratio, but then I choose the Rogue, so I'm partial!!!

Challenge accepted!

Drat! I've had limited success, due to the fact that Nissan introduced the Qashqai before the Rogue.
So starting with the Qashqai concept which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 2004 http://www.conceptcaronline.com/concept ... car-61.php

Would a video of the Resonance help? Arabic language video, posted online by a Russian, about a Japanese vehicle (cue up "it's a small world" music).

Diesel engines going mainstream in U.S.?
http://www.ksdk.com/news/article/363054 ... ream-in-US
Chrysler previously announced that it would sell a diesel version of the popular Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, beginning about May. And there's talk of a diesel for the Jeep Wrangler.

Meanwhile, Chevrolet is planning a diesel version of its Cruze compact that will come in May to some dealers in 13 key, diesel-friendly cities, including Baltimore, Seattle, St. Louis and Atlanta. Within 90 days after that, the diesel Cruze will be available nationwide, says Chevy spokeswoman Annalisa Bluhm.

And Mazda will offer a diesel version of its Mazda6 midsize four-door sedan later this year. That is almost certain to make it the first maker other than Volkswagen to offer a diesel in a mainstream family car.
Maybe we'll finally see a diesel Rogue. :woot:

Dunno what their planning for the update Rogue, but here's what I found on the 2014 Qashqai.
New details are starting to emerge about the 2014 Nissan Qashqai.

According to Auto Express, the crossover will have styling that is influenced by the Hi-Cross concept. Nissan's executive vice president, Andy Palmer, also told the magazine it will be about the same size as today's model.

Inside, the cabin is expected to feature higher quality materials and an improved design. As Palmer noted, "Nissan has a scale for measuring overall quality and fit and finish of its cars. The new Qashqai is the first model to score a six."

Under the hood, there will reportedly be a new turbocharged 1.2-liter petrol engine that produces 113 hp (84 kW / 114 PS) and 190 Nm (140 lb-ft) of torque. It could enable the crossover to average more than 50 mpg UK (41.6 mpg US / 5.6L/100km) with CO2 emissions of less than 120 g/km.

On the diesel side, we can expect a 1.6 dCi that develops 128 hp (95 kW / 130 PS) and returns 60+ mpg UK (49.9 mpg US / 4.7L/100 km) with CO2 emissions of less than 105 g/km.
"diesel returns 49.9 mpg US" :woot:

A 1.2 Turbo producing 113 hp and 140 lb/ft torque in the European Rogue - funny how different things are here in NA.

If they offered that powerplant here they would get laughed out of business, probably wouldn't sell a single Rogue even though the efficiency numbers are phenomenal, and its all about the power-weight ratio, not absolute power numbers. Any predictions on what the next-gen Rogue powertrain will look like here in NA?

I'm going to predict the same 2.5L carries forward with a next-gen CVT to increase the efficiency numbers, and the overall weight will be reduced by 200 lbs. A few years later they will offer a hybrid version as well, and maybe a smaller displacement turbo around 2.0 L displacement.

Nissan has less than 10days to get their act together and put out a SICK looking, sharp vehicle; or i am signing on Hyundai's dotted line. (and i am not joking either)

Nissan needs some fresh, new, leadership within their design team. case in point: i dont think they could have mounted skinnier
tires on the new pathfinder: P235/65R18 -&- P235/55R20
Image

when you design a wide, bulky SUV - be ready to mound some wider, beefier LOOKING tires. the New pathy looks like wimpy fat kid on ice-skates.

compare (stock base model sizes):
2013 Ford Explorer: 245/65-17
2013 Ford Escape: 235/55-17 (so much smaller than the pathy, yet same tire width! sad..)
2013 BMW X3: 245/50-18
2013 Toyota Highlander: 245/65-17
2013 Toyota Venza: 245/55-19
2013 Hyundai Santa Fe: 235/65-17 (so much smaller than the pathy, yet same tire width! sad..)
2013 Mazda CX9: 245/60-18

Yeah I agree, the new Pathfinder really caught my eye at first because a) price is incredible, they really undercut the competition by a significant margin, if nothing else it may cause other 7-row crossovers like the Pilot to reconsider their pricing, but probably not. b) effieciency numbers on paper look amazing, and considering they are using their tried and true, old VQ35 engine, this is even more of a surprise. Give credit to the "next-gen" CVT, and perhaps they've tweaked the VQ, I don't know. Also the interior practical features, like seating etc. are very well done.

But the exterior styling looks only partially done to me, like they ran outta money and just quick before they really finished it off. First glance, all is great, stare at it for a few minutes and really scrutinize it, and you can see why the sticker price is low. Front end is a good start, lacks finish. Wheel wells and sides lack any nice trim pieces or creases to dress it up. Not bad looking, but no "wow" factor, and the skinny tires are another example of that.

Check out the PathfinderTalk.com forum, and they've got problems with their "next gen" CVT, many owners are complaining about regular and intense shutter/jerk/juddering from the transmission, confirmed by Nissan as a problem but "no fix is available yet", those dreaded words are enough to drive you to another manufacturer. These components should have been throroughly tested prior to release to general public, rather than letting us test and work out the bugs. I hope the next Rogue has a proven "next-gen" CVT, or things will be going downhill fast for Nissan, its make-it or break-it time, I think.

If in the future I'm in the market for a new SUV or Crossover, I will compare between Nissan and Hyundai, and if Nissan hasn't put their act together I will go with Hyundai... I saw the review ImStricken posted for the Hyunday Santa Fe and I seriously fell in love with that car.

Vehicle "Infotainment" technology is big battle ground, even more so than just a few years ago partially as the masses have all aquired Smartphones, realized their potential, and increased their standards. No longer are consumers happy with just Bluetooth and "Aux In" audio connectivity. People want full Smartphone integration, or the equivalent of a built-in Smartphone like many luxury brands are offering.

Dodge is offering Smartphone connectivity enabling vehicle CONTROL this spring in the new Durango (along with new 8-spd transmission). Download an App and your Smartphone or internet-based device can communicate with the vehicle from anywhere, you can start the car, lock/unlock, adjust HVAC settings, run diagnostics and download performance and maintenance data. Very cool stuff, and this stuff is scalable just like Apps for your Smartphone, new functions are added every day, functionality increases over time beyond what was possible when you first purchased the device.

GM announced last week that by 2015 ALL their vehicles will have Wireless Hot Spot capability, this is another key battleground and something that people will quickly demand. Nissan has some catching up to do, I think the new Rogue will have some of these features, and the Pathy will have to offer new features around the 3rd model year or even earlier to compete.

IMHO what a piece of crap. Is this the best Nissan can come up with? First of all, I realize that a concept is only a concept and in all likelihood will not make it to market at least in the form that we see here. However, Nissan had better wake up and smell the coffee in terms of competing with the latest wave of SUV's that are already out in the market. Am I alone in thinking that Nissan has let both its Murano and Rogue models fall far behind the competition? Both are way beyond overdue for complete makeovers especially the Murano. Unfortunately, this late in the model year, we can probably expect have the same ol, same ol again for 2014 unless there is something new that Nissan has kept very well hidden. As for me, the Koreans are looking much better these days!
