First thing; Bubba1 is the MAN. I went to his place this past Saturday near Philly, which is right on the border with New Jersey. Cold_Zero went with me and drove my Grand Prix back to Indy. Many thanks to him. The trip was about 650 miles one way.

The reason I went there was to buy his '89 240SX which was advertised in our Buy/Sell/Trade forum for some time. I still cannot believe that I got the chance to buy his car. He was the original owner and kept it in the garage all of it's life. It uses/leaks NO oil, does not shimmy/shake/rattle/pull to one side or the other at all. The weatherstripping is perfect, which is something very rarely seen on 14 year old cars. The interior is in great shape, with the minor exception of the carpet. I could go on about how good this car is.

The best part about it is that I got it for $1,400!! w00t! I've already taken down a Mini Cooper S. Of course, there was a clueless driver behind the wheel who had no idea how to drive it. And yes, she WAS racing.

I did have a run-in with Pennsylvania's finest, to the tune of $139 and a couple points on my driver's record. I was perfect up until now. Busted for 79mph in a 65. CZ and I were passed by a church bus at that speed on the PA Turnpike. Oh well.

Andy

Glad you had a good time in mah home state :)

as far as the ticket, PA's finest are quite random. I was doing 80 in a 55 (it might have been 65) on 476 south right outside of philly and the was a state trooper just around the next corner hanging out the window with a radar gun. He sure as hell saw me (and got me with his radar gun), but he didnt go after me

Ultra-jealous Andy, what can I say, great deal on a solid car, unlike me(screw-job on a less than wonderful car) but live and learn, I guess. Congrats again.

Thanks guys. The trooper was hidden beautifully. Instant-on radar and happened to be the one picked out of a group of cars. Damned goofy-looking Barney Fife mofo.

miteymax, you bringing that car down to the Indy meet?

Would be if I didn't already have it in pieces in grandma's garage, although, if I start my job next week, I might be able to cobble it together and make a trip down

Yep. And so would anyone else that came around that corner over the limit. It's all about the revenue. :rolleyes

It would have been better if it weren't so rushed. I'd like to spend some time out there. We did have a beer with Bubba1 at his bar in his basement. He has a VERY cool place with a stable that most people could only dream of. The red 350Z under the car cover in the garage was drool material.

What was cool relating to my car is that Bubba1 is a driver's ed instructor. Race course driver's ed. He had several framed photos of the 240 on different road courses. I hope that I can keep up it's legacy!

Hey, J-Spec. If you don't mind me asking, where in PA are you located?

I'm trying to find a good shop that can build up a KA for me. I'm in Reading, PA.

The Mini is definitely a "love it or hate it" car. Personally, I think there's something vaguely clown car-ish about them. The Mini Cooper S is a very quick car.

Yes, indeed they are! We paid almost $40 in tolls to get the cars through PA and back. Unbelievable. With that kind of revenue, one would think the turnpike would be good. But no...

In driving across the entire country (several times) it has been my empirical findings that the amount of toll a road levies on its drivers is inversely correlated to the quality of the road itself.

i.e. the more the road charges you, the more the road is TRASH. Chicago Skyway charged me IIRC $7.00 to travel its entire length not too long ago - nothing but potholes and huge tar strips the whole time. PA turnpike is a rip-off, roads are awful and under perpetual construction. Delaware Turnpike, piece of sh*t road and is what, $4 now? for a 30-mile expanse of poorly maintained asphalt?

Oddly, the opposite is true in Mexico...higher tolls almost always correspond to better highways. Go figure that one out.

Roger that. I'm going to drive the KA for a while and then when funds permit, I will have a redtop SR and I won't have any problems chasing that damned S2k that pulled away from me yesterday...;)

Why would this be advantageous? Seems like that would be quite a bit more expensive.

I'm not after top hp #'s. I want something quick, reliable and not too expensive. A near-stock SR would provide that plus potential to make some pretty good stats with the right mods, which I could do over a period of time and still have turbo fun on a daily basis.

Hey Repo, thanks for the kind words. May your new 240 live long and prosper. And if you or Cold_Zero ever make it out this way again, the bar is always open.

Regards

I only speak the truth my man! And thanks again! The 240 purred like a kitten the whole way home. It now has 191,625 miles on the odo and I have not added a drop of oil. The oil is still clean too. Amazing.

It rained on the way home and it's rained here all week, more or less. Yesterday was nice and so is today. I cleaned her up yesterday and got all the road funk off and WOW, she sure is purty! I got some people breaking their necks to get a look at Starbucks last night. Hehe.

Ben, to answer your question, it feels great! This one is even better than my last one. It is stock, which is just fine. That'll let me mod it exactly how I want and when I want. The 240 is so much fun to drive, even if it's not the fastest thing on the road.

This is one of Bubba1's pics from his for sale thread. I don't have any pics yet personally, but should have some this weekend.
