Know any good reputable companies overseas?

In the end, I'm prolly gonna have to go to a used car lot in japan, and put a car on a boat myself, lol. I'm glad my best friends dad owns an import company ;)

hmmm.... 2,300 for a silvia + 900 shipping. That's like the cost of a clip, but you get a whole car.

^ exactly my point, so why just get a clip if you can get a whole car?

This isnt the only company where I've seen S13s go this cheap

why buy a clip when you could get a whole car and watch it get crushed after it doesnt get through customs? :D

Most of those sites are intended for austrailians, who can actually import and legalize cars never sold in their country.

You just made me shed a tear at the thought :(

I can bring it over for "off road" use in California, thats about it, there is always that chance tho. But I doubt that will be to big of a problem if I have any luck and land this job I'm workin on ;)

there is no way to legalize that skyline tho, unless you take it to motorex, and pay 18k (for a R32 i believe)

wow after checking out the website, that might be an option.a donor car, you could get it through customs, as a drag car or something of that nature.

it takes an incredible amount of paper work to get a car through customs offroad or not, and on top of that you can only keep it in the country for a year. Sure you could just try and not get caught, but as soon as you get pulled over, off to the impound lot and a sceduled meeting with the local car crusher.

Here is the original NICO thread were that link came from. I believe we can dis-regard Adam's comments from Afterdark, however I think there is alot of other interesting tidbits in there about people that have had similar problems with buying engines on-line and specifically out of Quebec.

Yeah, but if I put all the parts in a USDM chassis (s13) then noones the wiser, I'll have my USDM VIN and everything, I can just say its a show car or something if I get rolled and they're like "wtf, the steering wheel is on the wrong side"

You ARE allowed to have right hand drive vehicles in Cali ;)

As for the motor/emissions, I have 2 KA motors, I can get it to pass smog that way, or I can just get the car to comply, or take it to a friend ;)

yeah your allowed to drive RHD vehicles in all 50 states.

Its still about 3x as expensive and 10x as hard to ship a car into the country when you could just get a front clip and all the parts through a used parts dealer for cheap. If you have a way of getting away with it thats great, i know other people have too.

Any car that is approved by the EPA and DOT can be legalized in the US. Anybody can do it, not just motorex. There are other companies that can do it, or you could do it with the right knowledge.

I may be wrong but I believe Motorex is the ony company at this point that can legalize a Skyline. Mororex has paid the huge amount of cash to crash test the Skyline to earn US certification.

You cannot just take a car and add new bumpers etc to make it US legal.

There is at least one other company, but I can't remember thier name. Maaybe I have it wrote somewhere. You are correct about the adding bumpers thing, but once the crash test step is passed for the DOT, then it is just a matter of knowing what to do for each type of car. Do you think that a crash test has to be done for each and every individual car that is imported? That is why the car has to be approved by the DOT. Crash test info is by law public knowledge, and then there's the monopoly laws, so no, Motorex is not the only company that can import a skyline.

Yeah, but I want it to be JDM tyte, yo.

BTW, I know there is another company, but to do the conversion yourself would be a *****, because as I understand it, the DOT has no obligation to tell you how to legalize it, and I'm SURE Motorex won't just hand you a list and say "good luck!"

Well, I know crash test info is available to the public, but I've never tried to get it so I have no idea how much of a headache it would be. And it would deffinately be a ***** to do the work yourself, but for the prices Motorex charges, I wouldn't even consider going threw them.

the info and heresay in this thread is beyond belief. have any of you actually read the us customs regulations on importing nonconforming vehilces into the us? have any of you actually read the department of transportations rules on legalizing a nonconforming vehicle? have any of you read the epa's rules for emissions testing a nonconforming engine? if you fail a SINGLE requirement, tough luck you are sol.

im suprised no one has searched because i have argued about this topic many times with uninformed "dreamers." motorex and rbmotoring are the only places to buy or legalize a skyline for street legal use in the us. motorex has spent the money for their emissions and crash testing and that info is monopolized by them, they payed for it, they own it. it is not avaliable to public use, so whoever says they read it in import tuner is wrong.

prigo if you think you can just put a US vin plate on your jdm fantasy car, then you are an idiot. if you can even get a complete parts car, non-running to be legal, i would be suprised. from there you would have to swap every part feasible into a legal registered LHD chassis. from there it's your choice to do a rhd swap or not, but that would involve cutting up the jdm (OMG) chassis and doing the conversion to your lhd chassis. so in any case you can never have a 100% jdm car that is legal in the US, unless it is a skyline from motorex. tough luck, grow up, and do some research.
