I am getting rid of the smog junk on my ka24de and I was wondering specifically about the three sensors in the back of the lower half of the intake manifold. What are they for? Smog? Can I eliminate any of them or do I need to keep them? What can I get rid of period in terms of the smog?

Its probably a good idea to keep the sensors but I just wanted to make sure. Now I am really curious as to what their function is. All I have to look anything up in at my house is a chiltons guide (I wish now that I just lit the money I payed for that thing on fire).

Another question. There is a metal rail that I belive carries exaust, but once again I am not sure. There are 4 individual black hoses that run to the upper portion of the intake manifold right before each intake port in the head. The rail is connected to a black box mounted on the side of the block (From what I remember it was). Any idea what this does? Any help is greatly appreciated.

That black box is like a PCV system. I left mine on.

Remove the metal tube and all the 2 big valves on the back of the intake manifold. And remove the mess of metal tubes and rubber hoses on the back of the head. The only rubber hoses that should be back there is one hose for the FPR and one for the manifold flaps (if you decide to keep them).

Its called an EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) it pumps exhaust back into the engine to clean up the emisions
