I have removed my K&N and put the factory air filer and housing back in. I also removed all of the plastic channeling behind the light and buy the bumper. I must admit I was worried that water could some how get up to the air box.

It rained in New for 5 days straight after I did this. I checked the air bos and filter sporaticly but dry as a wistle. I do not mis the vacum sound that the K&N made and I have not detected any loss in power. If anything the cars seems to breathe great!!!!

I let a friend drive the car last night....And he is trying to buy a Pearl 91 Q this morning. Should I say more......

I also have that setup, although mine was out of necessity rather then choice. It still has a really nice sound IMO.

Last week my brother-inlaw drove his accord through some nasty puddles when he got home his filter was soaked,it wasn't a k&n but some other brand.I pull up to his drive way as he is drying his filter with a hair dryer the funniest stuff i seen all week.I'm real glad to hear that you don't notice a power loss at all.On my Y33 I like my intake setup,as of now I have no plans on changing it.

So Wes, is that pulling in the cold air still?I did a similar mods like that to my ol 94 cougar back in the day and loved the way it sounded, would be cool on the Q too if it doesnt present any problems.

Is there a possible thread on this that I cant find?Thx

No because I didnt post it because I didnt feel like getting flamed.. Everyone loved it when i gutted the precats, im not about to go through that again!

There is a small duct that goes just behind the headlight so im still sucking in cold air... I actually have a modified airbox and i still have yet to seal it up completely.....

Yes I would guess that cold air come in thru the gril and also from under the bumper where there are angled vents. It you look at them is appears that they are angled up.

At 160k I didn't think they'd be worth much so I ripped out the secondaries too.

On the CAI -if you buy some "wet arm" tubing for windshield fluid and glue it on the periphery of the connector tube (between the box and the core support) it will seal out everything. It's real thin and smashes flat, use 3M weatherstrip adhesive

Well you could always add the K&N drop in air filter into your stock housingthat is why i have it works great and no noise.

By the time you invest in 2 (1 in use, the other for re-oiling) there's not really any benefit. Actually, I had a K&N and was getting a CEL, once I replaced it the CEL went away???

I had it (CAI) installed in my OldLady (Y33). I drove it for 2-3 weeks and saw no real difference in performance (mid-to-high accel is a bit better), but saw a decrease in MPG (~2mpg). I had CAI (look up my postings for CAI) and when removed really enjoyed quiet ridde. Real improvement I made when I did 300ZX diff (4.083 gear ratio) upgrade. My OldLAdy pulls like a bat out of hell if I wanted it!Cheers!

As far as I know 300ZX diff works only on Y33 Q45. There might be some options for G50 Q45, I don't know. As for Y33 it is as simple as it can be. And I SCORED on a diff (35$) from pull-a-part yard. G50 ia different beast I would ask G50 gurus! Cheers!
